Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gomez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I worked in veterinary medicine for about 15 years in total, since I was 18. I had always loved esthetics but didn’t really consider it as a career until much later. After I had my daughter I decided to stay home with her. When she was just about to start kindergarten, I really kept questioning what I was going to do with myself since she would be gone all day. It finally felt like the right time to dive in headfirst. I signed up for esthetician school at 35 years old and I have been swimming ever since. I completed by hours and passed state boards just as I was moving into my first shared studio space.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Trying to start a new career in your mid 30s is wild. I was juggling completing my hours for school, taking care of my family and home, while also seeing clients on the side. I started seeing clients in small 7×7 room that I shared with a friend. I don’t know how but we made it work, cramped in that space with 2 massage beds and a husky tool drawer that we put all of our stuff in. Just as I was completing my school hours I was able to rent a larger space with a couple of my esthetician friends that we all split and had designated time in. I just moved into my own studio suite last October and having my own space that is just mine has been the best and most challenging thing. I am making it work though and I feel like I am doing pretty good for just being licensed for 3 years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a licensed esthetician I dabble in a lot of services within my scope, but I would absolutely consider myself a lash lift and brow specialist. I do body waxing, but lashes and brows are where my heart is and what I am known for. I have done multiple trainings in lash lifts, brow lamination and waxing to continue to learn and grow. All of them have been amazing, but I was lucky enough to train and work with celebrity brow artist Kelley Baker last year, that was the highlight for sure. I won best lash services of Redlands 2025. That was a huge surprise to even be nominated, let alone win. I think seeing how far I have come in the last few years, especially having started out later in life is what I am the most proud of.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Oh my gosh! I was, and still am, an extroverted introvert. I am social with my friends and family and people I vibe with but can be quiet and anxious around people I don’t know. You will catch me gabbin with my clients though. I could chat with them all day. I loved to read, still do. And music is deeply rooted and has been since I was a teenager. My favorite thing to do was go to the local venue to see bands play. My clients know my love for emo goes deep and has since I was a kid.
