Meet Pedro Gutierrez of Gamma Photography Studio in Costa Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pedro Gutierrez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pedro. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a photographer for the past 10 years. I have experience in Fashion, Commercial, Documentary and Wedding Photography.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to complete different assignments in Spain, UK, Mexico and the U.S. In the South of Spain, I covered the most prestigious flamenco festival. In London, I had the opportunity to work 2 years for various studios doing fashion photography. In Mexico City, I was hired to produce and photograph 3 books for the Department of Education. However, the U.S. is where my base has been throughout the years and where my home is.

In 2013, after traveling continuously for the previous 6 years, I decided to come back and open Gamma Photography Studio bringing together my experiences in multiple fields, while reaching out to a broader market. At Gamma Photography Studio, we specialize in everything related to Portraits and Events.

On the other hand, we also have Gamma Commercial Photography (different website as well) which includes Product, Architectural, Editorial and Corporate Photography. Two different entities and styles under one umbrella.

Some of our clients include Taco Bell, Snapchat, Vince., Muscle Maker, Water District of Southern California, Edwards Lifesciences, among others.

We have now become a team of professional photographers that cover different areas in multiple fields and we are thrilled to keep expanding as a company in Southern California.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since opening Gamma Photography Studio it has been a great journey! It’s been thrilling and exciting from the very beginning, always meeting new people, new encounters and new situations, while all along having to learn how to become a better business owner at the same time. These two separate identities, photographer and business owner, tend to be perceived as being separate from each other, but as many independent creatives quickly realize, you become your own brand and your own business the moment you decide to work for yourself. It can be somewhat intimidating at first; especially living in an era in which many people with a camera can place an ad online and call themselves photographers for a cheaper price.

Photography is often misunderstood in many ways. It’s one of those fields that is very easy to approach, you can start off right away doing it and having fun with it as a hobby. But as it is in any field, as soon as you decide to become a professional and make a living from it, it requires a lot of work, training, patience, dedication and perseverance.

The moment it becomes your livelihood, your main source of income to make a living and your lifestyle in general, it also becomes your source of worry or anxiety at times. You are only as good as your last picture and you never know if your next client will be satisfied with your work or if that will challenge your reputation somehow. So far, I’ve been blessed to have consistent results and absolute satisfaction with all of my clients in all the past years (as noted in all the reviews I have online) and that is what I think separates a professional from the rest at the end. Which is, having consistent and successful results every single time.

Gamma Photography Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We have two branches that cover most types of photography.

Gamma Photography Studio specializes in Portraits and Events, while Gamma Commercial Photography is specialized in Product, Architectural, Editorial and Corporate Photography.

Whether we do family portraits and weddings, or create campaigns and catalogs for our e-commerce clients, we are definitely equipped to cover any assignment we are given.

I believe that something that sets us apart from our competition is precisely our diversity and technical capacity to manage any lighting situation. Some photographers can be great outdoors but can’t do work in studio, or some others can shoot products in studio but are not as great with people. In our case, we are very proud to have that flexibility and diversity of skills not just in technical matters but also understanding how to deal and interact in all kinds of situations as well.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The most important quality of success for me is to become a company of great value. In this case, great value defined as beneficial. In other words, I’d like Gamma Photography Studio to become a company that is beneficial to our community. To a degree, I have already reached some level of success in the sense that I do what I’m most passionate about, making a living out of it and have incredible feedback from all my clients. However, I think the moment the company is able to have a positive impact in our community as a business, then we have truly become a successful company.
