Meet Micah King of GLENNVILLE, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah King.

Hi Micah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Glennville, GA, the same hometown as NFL Hall of Famers Shannon and Sterling Sharpe. My dad, Randy King, was a long-time educator, Veteran, Pastor and public servant. My mom is a preacher as well, and a homemaker. As a child I remember traveling with my dad to city council meetings and other political events, and that is when I fell in love with politics. Once moving back home as an adult the opportunity to jump into politics formally presented itself and I ran for city council. I served on the city council for four years from 2020 – 2024. After running for Mayor, and not winning, I decided to find other ways to serve my community. After 2 years away from campaigning and politics, I am now running for the Georgia State House District 157 as the Democratic candidate. I am the first Democrat, in over a decade to run for this seat, and first black person to ever run for this position.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running as a Democrat in a very Republican district is challenging. Most times they have access to more money and bigger networks.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Transition Counselor for the Army Transition Assistance Program. I help soldiers prepare for civilian life. I’m also a Youth Minister at church, and Financial Counselor. Everything I do, or aspire to, is based around serving others. If something needs to be done, I will jump in and help. Whether I’m taking the lead, or just quietly helping in the background, I don’t mind serving.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As much I’m around the political environment. I have a love hate relationship with it. I love helping people, but I hate how we do politics in the US. I feel like we’ve reduced it to the red vs the blue team, and it is proving to be less and less effective everyday.
