Meet Mer Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mer Young.

Mer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been creating art for some time. I am a multidisciplinary artist who has created a body of artwork manifested in collages, drawings, paintings, and public artworks. I began exhibiting my drawing and paintings in galleries for about ten years. I grew tired of my work being inaccessible then I sought out to do murals. Social media has been helpful as far as gaining recognition for the analogue and digital collage works that I do, it has allowed me to expand and work on commissions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges. I appreciate them and take heed to them. They are tools for learning how to improve on myself and work or even navigate in this world. Some include being WOC, undermining the idea of art and making art, the business aspects of creating art, amongst many other issues. From folks who try and put up fences to keep you from doing what you love and overcoming them.

Mer Young Art & Design – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I provide original artworks to cities, companies, individuals and small businesses from branding, to collages, to murals. I specialize in field of drawing, collage, and painting. What I am proud of is being able to create and execute whatever a client visions. I think this is what sets me apart as well to be able to visualize and create something that has meaning and holds ascetics as well.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Creating a 106 foot mural for the City of Long Beach
