Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Gina Pasamba.
Hi Maria Gina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello Everyone! I would just like thank you for having me back on. You had featured me awhile back 2017 to be exact.
Long story short, when I realized my classes were only being offered every other semester at the time I was a music major due to budget cuts I had a decision to make. I happened to have come across my yearbook and every single dedication was either about my singing or me helping relax their shoulder before an exam or final. After that I started looking for massage schools close to me. It had to be close enough so I can still pick up my siblings from school. Checked out a few schools and when I found one I liked I enrolled myself. I knew I loved Massage Therapy as soon as I took my first classes. My instructor Elton was a big reason why I really stuck it through, He said I reminded him of himself. His father pushed him and he pushed me not because he was being rude but because he saw the potential. Let’s just say It been a beautiful 15 years in the field of bodywork.
A lot has changed since then. I unfortunately had to close my office down in Woodland HIlls. I ended up moving to Chatsworth with a collegue of mine from when I used to work with this Sports doctor. Unfortuantely, we ended up having to close that office down too. Then the pandemic happeneded. Let’s just say once everything started closing down my clients ended up rescheduling or cancelling sessions all together. March 2021 I had my baby boy. Took a two year Hiatus to raise my boy. Started taking clients when he was 2 1/2 years old. I now live life in the MOMENT. When I became a mom being in the moment really put things in perspective for me. Children more often than not are really living their lives only in the moment. They are so carefree, loving and innocent. I still take clients and only hold certain spots open a week for that. Otherwise, I am a full time Solo Parent. after 15 years in the field all I can say is I still love and enjoy what I do. When you love what you do you are not working a day in your life. Everything just flows effortlessly.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any field there will be its ups and downs. For the most part, its all been good, There are always perks when you work for yourself. In my case, it is crucial for me to be able to have down time to rest. My practice has evolved to more than just bodywork. I’ve always incorporated spirituality to my practice. I am finding more so lately that people are not only looking of bodwork but they are also looking for a safe space to express themselves openly without any judgement. By resting, so my spiritual up keep ( meditation, smudging, sleeping, energy cleansing, etc.) I am able to provide that for my clientele. I want to be completely honest that part of my daily is what I struggle with. Sitting down I can do but eventually I get to urge that I need to be moving. Mind you, I went from working 6 days a week with 12 to 14 hour days to 2 to 3 days a week hours vary at this point. I realized why should I over work myself. I can spread out all my appointments. Again, having a child made me slow down and really enjoy everyday. I am PRESENT. No longer on Autopilot.
I know a lot of people will agree with me. The pandemic either made you sit back and look at the bigger picture or it pushed to be a completely different person. What you thought you wanted back then is no longer what you want now. And that is ok, For me, as long as I am actively helping those in need of healing I am a happy camper. Everything else in life is a bonus. As long as you have a roof over your head, your health, friends and family who love you, food on the table then you are BLESSED beyond words.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Touch Heals Therapeutic Massage ?
I am a Seasoned Therapeutic Massage Therapist. 15 years to be exact. I include that one year I went to school. I specialize in deep tissue, sports and therapeutic massage along with energy healing. I started my career working with Chiropractors, Acupuncturist, Sports doctors. During my time in those offices I helped the practitioners with car accident victims, sports injuries, destressing and relaxtion sessions for these patients. I took a leap of faith and started my own practice. What sets me aside from other therapist is my sessions become more of a Mind, Body and Soul experience. Every client is different. I can get client coming in with PTSD and their body is in completely locked up and need help or a client just needs time to themselves because life has gotten overwhelming and they need to express themselves. Every session is different. My goal is to make sure everyone that I work on gets off my table better than when they came in.
I love what I do, I love getting to know people. Above all being able to see clients smile because they are finally getting relief or just feeling better in general. Can’t beat that. It is so rewarding.
What are your plans for the future?
Hopefully in the near future I can open up shop again. I think what happened every time I opened up an office it was rushed, I needed a place to work on clients immediately and those offices were avaiable to me immediately. This time around I want to add on other healers to my practice. Other Modalities that will help people. Perhaps reiki, sound bath, acupuncture, etc.
As of now, I am going with the flow. Raising my son and Seeing where the universe will take me. So far its been an amazing journey and pray it continues that way. Always growing and really doing that internal healing.
