Meet Lizzy Passion of Malibu Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzy Passion.

Hi Lizzy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Phew. I am turning 35 this weekend and can’t believe I moved from Texas to California a decade ago! Since then, I’ve gotten married, had three kids, started a band, started another band, built up a local music career, and am currently just trying not to quit!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most recently, my struggle has been the mental game of the music industry. Most fellow musicians I talk to are discouraged by the current industry landscape.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a primarily Country artist, with a little bit of rock n’ roll, a little folk, a little blues, a little singer-songwriter. I wrote my first song at twelve years old, but have really been pursuing local musicianship for the last four years here in Malibu. I do it all, from busking, to curating and hosting shows, to playing songwriter rounds, to headlining full band shows. Small venues, mid-sized venues, no big venues yet.
I’m most proud of my kids, and my marriage. If you know the kind of childhood I had, it would be obvious. I married the kind of man who is the father to our kids that I never had, and the kind of husband that my mom never had. I’m proud of us for working so hard together, but also simply grateful because I recognize a lot of it is not our own doing.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the music community that I have out here. Not everyone is super welcoming, but most of the people I’ve met have been lovely.
