Meet Lauren Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Clark.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and bred in Los Angeles and graduated from Long Beach State with a degree in Business Marketing. After graduating, I worked in advertising for several years however I felt like my creative soul wasn’t fulfilled. I always wanted to be my own boss and work in the beauty industry. I wanted my own clients, work on set, work with photographers and tell a story. I was definitely at a crossroads and knew I wanted to make a change!

I took the plunge and enrolled at Penrose Academy. After school, I got a job at Rumors in Scottsdale, Az. and I assisted every senior stylist to soak up all their knowledge. I then moved back to LA and continued my hair journey at Robert Vetica’s salon. Fast forward three years later, I am now based out of two great salons, Martinez-Samuel in West Hollywood and Canale-Martinez in Pacific Palisades. I also freelance with a number of major Agencies, which I love.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think the biggest struggle was building confidence in my work. Early on, it’s very easy to compare yourself to others on social media but we all have a journey. I remind myself just to keep doing what I’m doing and it will pay off.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a hair stylist and colorist. I style and color for my clients in the salon and the freelance work is mainly styling. I’m very lucky to do both! I love seeing the results for my clients while the shoots are like story-telling and I love working within a creative team. The photographer, makeup artist, wardrobe and talent – there is a collective vision and we all add our piece to create it.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! LA is very creative, celebrates individuality and is a city of opportunity! For someone just starting out here, I would say “Put yourself out there!” When opportunities arise, say yes and learn from every situation. Stay true to who you are and maintain the relationships you build.
