Today we’d like to introduce you to Kruti Shah.
Kruti, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Art has always been a part of my life – thanks to my Mom for introducing it at a very early age and consistently encouraging me to do so. Creating something with my hands always brought joy to me. I am a self-taught artist. My art is from my heart.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating art has always been joyful and fulfilling but getting my art ready to be seen by the world and being where I am today has been lot of hard work, learning and unlearning. The challenge was right from where to start and the outlets and venues to showcase my work. There has been lot of rejections. But with all of those hurdles one thing remained constant and unfazed -I kept creating. With time and patience came admirers, followers, loyal collectors and curators who appreciated the diversity in my style. I am grateful for the admirers, supporters and collectors who help me propel and have been supportive of my unique style and diverse body of work.
Please tell us about KrutisKreations.
I create one of a kind art that celebrates exquisite details and patterns of our natural world. My mediums are metallic inks, raw pigments and acrylics from which I build my works using tiny abstract dot like patterns and slender lines. Repeated application of tiny abstracts patterns builds the final image that appears almost pixelated or at times gives a mosaic type feel. I also use newspapers and pages from old books as background for some of my works. I love experimenting with different mediums and the most current experiment is to create collages using cutouts from magazines and old books. I am thankful for the opportunity to showcase my works in juried shows, galleries, museums and in online curated spaces. With multiple bodies of work, my most collected and admired works are from the collections titled, “Patterns and Designs”, “I Do”, “Gods of India”, “Birds of Paradise”, “Zen N Art” and “Pop Art”.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not change anything as my experiences and specially my failures have helped me grow. The way I read this question is ,”what did I learn from life ?” and in that case I have few would and wouldn’t haves:
-
I would not be too hard on myself and allow myself to, “feel the pain”. Not take it out on others; should not suppress it; but just sit with it. Grieve, cry, write, meditate or see a therapist, do whatever it takes to let go of the pain, instead of holding on to it.
-
I would not worry so much about what others think. If everyone was pleased with me then either they are lying or I am.
-
I would live in “here and now” and not sacrifice time in too much planning.
Revisiting the past allows me to make educated choices. The moment I notice signs of manipulation, I close the door, and move on. I don’t hang on, or take the failure as a reflection of my self-worth. Whatever transpires is not going to last, so we don’t need to hold on to and allow it to define us.
