Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Yorn.
Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up on a farm in Cambodia, and my journey to becoming a hairstylist and business owner in Beverly Hills has been something I’m very proud of. I became a licensed cosmetologist in 2006 and spent years learning, growing, and building my experience in the beauty industry.
In 2014, I opened Land of Beauty. Over the years, I developed a strong focus on hair extensions, dimensional color, and balayage. I love helping women feel confident and beautiful, and I’ve always cared about creating natural-looking results and giving my clients personal attention.
As my business grew, I started thinking beyond working behind the chair. I began expanding Land of Beauty into my own hair extension brand and online business. I’m continuing to learn more about e-commerce, marketing, social media, and building a brand while still taking care of my salon clients.
Today, I’m working toward growing Land of Beauty Hair, expanding my hair extension products and online sales, and eventually building a business that can continue growing beyond just me working behind the chair. My journey has taken a lot of patience, hard work, and learning, and I’m excited about where it is going next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was building a career and business while adapting to a new country, culture, and language. English is my second language, so there were times when communication and confidence were difficult, especially in business.
Starting Land of Beauty also came with the normal challenges of being a small business owner — building a clientele, managing expenses, learning how to market myself, and continuing to improve my skills while balancing work and family.
More recently, expanding from salon services into e-commerce and creating my own hair extension business has been another learning experience. I’ve had to learn about websites, online sales, marketing, inventory, and social media, which is very different from working behind the chair.
Through all of those challenges, I’ve learned to be patient, keep learning, and not give up easily. Every obstacle has helped me become more confident as both a hairstylist and a business owner.
As you know, we’re big fans of Land of Beauty . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Land of Beauty is a Beverly Hills-based beauty business specializing in hair extensions, dimensional color, balayage, and personalized hair services. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2006, and I opened Land of Beauty in 2014 with the goal of helping women feel confident and beautiful through high-quality, natural-looking hair.
Over the years, I’ve developed a strong focus on hair extensions, including wefts, tape-ins, K-tips, I-tips, clip-ins, and other extension methods. I also specialize in custom color and blending so the finished result looks as seamless and natural as possible.
What sets Land of Beauty apart is the personal attention I give each client and my focus on quality. I don’t believe beauty should feel rushed or one-size-fits-all. Every client has different hair, goals, and lifestyle needs, so I take the time to create a look that works specifically for them.
I’m also growing Land of Beauty beyond salon services by developing my online hair extension business and offering hair tools and beauty products. I’m proud that the brand I started behind the chair is now becoming something bigger, while still staying connected to the same purpose: helping women feel beautiful, confident, and cared for.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up on a farm in Cambodia, and my childhood was very different from the life I have today. Growing up taught me to work hard, be resourceful, and appreciate what I had. I was naturally creative and always interested in beauty, fashion, and making things look nice, even when I didn’t have many resources.
Personality-wise, I was hardworking, independent, and determined. I learned early that if I wanted something, I had to work for it. I also cared a lot about helping people and making others feel good.
Looking back, I think those early experiences shaped who I am today. They gave me the patience, discipline, and determination that helped me build a career in beauty and eventually create my own business.
