Today we’d like to introduce you to David Czinn and Brian Finkel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David and Brian. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Brian and I became best friends almost 13 years ago when we were studying abroad in the Middle East. We always knew we wanted to start a business together and that dream came to fruition in February of 2017. Shortly after Brian moved to Tel Aviv, he came across silan (also known as date syrup). When he called me and told me about his awesome discovery, we knew we had to bring it to the US.
The only issue we found was that most of the products in the Middle East had added sugar and preservatives. We knew that we only wanted to launch a clean product that was made with nothing but ingredients you can pronounce. After finally securing a supplier, co-packer and storage facility we decided to launch D’vash Organics at small local markets throughout LA in 2017.
Once we built enough traction locally, we applied to Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Wegmans where we were granted the opportunity to present our products and were fortunate enough to gain placement on their shelves. Today you can find D’vash in over 2,500 stores across the US and on Amazon.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
That really is a hilarious question. Some of the most difficult things we dealt with were on the supply side. Our first production run was for lack of a better word a disaster. It was delayed almost 20 days because the freight company lost our date nectar, our cap supplier sent the wrong caps and of course we had the issues with shipping our fragile glass bottles across the country for samples and to customers.
Luckily for us, we were quick on our feet and found a solution, but almost every day Brian and I are putting out fires on a daily basis. There is definitely never a dull, boring day at the D’vash Organics office but hey, that is what keeps life fun and interesting.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dvash Organics LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
D’vash is a product that can be enjoyed by everyone since it’s a vegan alternative to honey with 25% less sugar and it tastes awesome. We’re very proud of the fact that we use the highest quality local, sustainable California dates.
The sweetener sector is outdated today, and D’vash brings something new and exciting to the table. No other sweetener currently available in the market is USDA organic, vegan, non-GMO project verified, low-glycemic, lower-sugar, locally and sustainably sourced in the US, and gluten-free.
D’vash is also delicious and has a unique flavor profile that makes it perfect to use in a wide variety of recipes. D’vash can be used to sweeten coffee or tea, dress salads, marinate chicken or meats, drizzle on pancakes or waffles, or bake incredible desserts. It’s also a perfect topper for your smoothie or yogurt in the morning!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is everything. You only fail when you give up which is not an option for us. Luck has had an incredible role in our business, and we feel fortunate and lucky to have the team and advisors we have in our corner today.
Thankfully we have been given a lot of great guidance and advice that has really helped us develop a strong, detailed plan which we are in the process of executing.
