Meet Courtney Paige Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Paige Nelson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a singer/songwriter, hailing from San Francisco, California.

I took a very unconventional route to music. Performing in front of my first audience at 27 years old, I was able to find meaning and purpose in the hardships and difficulties of having to grow up really quickly. I was lost for a very long time before I found music. I didn’t think I had purpose or deserved to have any.

With no prior music training, I had to find what was already inside me the whole time. Music is just something that I’m supposed to do. I can say that with certainty.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely not been an easy path. I had to grow up getting out at 17. I didn’t get a chance to even finish highschool because I had to worry about other things. There’s truly been so much that has happened in my life, which you will hear in my music. I always wanted to tell my story about what I’ve been through having to grow up at 17, having scoliosis surgery two years before that, not graduating highschool… it’s been a wild ride. Music saved my life which I know is cliche to say but it truly did. I struggled to find self-worth and purpose for years… it wasn’t until last year that I realized I can sing and use what I already write to tell my story.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a singer songwriter. I just released my debut single “Sorry I’m Not Perfect.” Which I’m excited about. The lyrics are very truthful and raw. It’s about a very hard breakup that I went through. It’s currently available on music platforms!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I came to Los Angeles almost seven years ago because I wanted to become something bigger. I didn’t want to settle. I also couldn’t be in the places I grew up without having reminders of what I went through. Originally I came here to model and it never took off so I ended up almost giving up before I landed on Americas Next Top Model which ultimately blew my social media up and created a platform for me to be my raw honest self. It wouldn’t be till three years later that I would sing for the first time in my life in front of people. From there, I started playing live shows and basically was thrown into the pit with no experience. I’d say if it wasn’t for moving to Los Angeles on my own, I never would’ve found this hidden piece of myself. To anyone wanting to move here, all you can do is try it for yourself.
