Meet Caris Reid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caris Reid.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I had a nomadic childhood, moving every few years to new cities with my family. I went to art school in Boston, lived a decade in New York and have called California home for two years now. I have a deep relationship to painting and spirituality, and in addition to painting I have a tarot practice under the name Luminous Palm.

Please tell us about your art.
My paintings are primarily of archetypal female energies. As with all archetypes, I see them as existing within both men and women. Themes of duality, of harmony, of strength, and of emotional and spiritual connection often show up in my work. Symmetry and repetition are used in my paintings to create hypnotic visual spaces. The paintings are flat and graphic in style, which brings a boldness and immediacy, a holding space for the spiritual, sexual, emotional and transcendent.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It can be, but I honestly like the solitude. I’m fortunate to be connected to a really beautiful community of artists, healers and creatives, both in LA and NY, and I deeply cherish those relationships. For artists who are feeling isolated, find like-minded people. Connect online, go to openings and events in your community, strike up a conversation, have a studio visit. Your people are out there.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Right now I have a painting hanging in “Sweet Cheeks” at Big Pictures Los Angeles, curated by Melanie Faure and Doug Crocco and will have work hanging in “Yin Yang” curated by Callie Moore at 00 this February. People can see my paintings online at www.carisreid.com and follow me on Instagram: @carisr and @luminous_palm for Tarot.
