Meet Berta Sigríðardóttir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Berta Sigríðardóttir.

Berta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Reykjavik Iceland and raised there by my mom. I started doing voice overs when I was four years old and at the age of seven, I started doing theater. I was always interested in acting and took any chance to be in front of an audience or camera. When I was 16, I went to London and did a summer program in devising theater at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After that, I knew I had to do everything in my power to follow my passion. The next winter, the New York Film Academy had auditions in Reykjavik and I thought I better start audition for collages. I thought it would take a few tries before I’d be accepted but that was not the case and I got in. So, four months later, I arrived in New York City where I did my first year of studies and after that, I moved to Los Angeles where I finished my bachelor’s degree in acting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve struggled with mental health issues since I was just a kid and the change between Iceland and New York was very hard and my mental stability suffered for it. I spiraled out of control and it was a lot of hard work to get back on track but I was lucky enough to have my family and my friends to support me. I worked hard on my self with the help of professionals and I was lucky enough to get back into the right track.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m an actress. I’ve been acting for most of my life and I probably will continue acting for the rest of my life.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I don’t think I have one proudest moment there is really hard to pick one moment. I feel proud every time, I step off the stage or set and know I did a good job. It was a proud moment to graduate but not in the same way as when I step off the stage or finish a performance.
