Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey and Mackenzie Swift.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Aubrey and Mackenzie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We had talked about owning our own event planning company since we were little girls because we grew up with a mother who was always planning the next party! Growing up with those creative genes, we imagined that we would eventually follow in her footsteps. When we moved to LA after college, we found it was extremely hard to get hired as full-time event planners. There were only part time gigs here and there, and we couldn’t make a living. We were assisting several coordinators and planning freelance events, but we knew that we had the passion and ability to start our own company! We brainstormed the name Details, Darling on a plane from our hometown, AZ flying back to LA. The next day, we created all of our social media pages and bought the domain name for our website. We spent the next two months designing our site from scratch and began to brand ourselves on Instagram. People responded to it really well and the rest fell into place. We were really blessed because we got connected to a great network of vendors who really helped us launch our business quickly!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have definitely had our speed bumps because that is inevitable when it comes to life in general. However, we have really been fortunate with the people we’ve met, our couples (no bride-zillas) and our journey. We’ve learned how to run a business with a family member which is not always easy. A lot more emotions are involved because you love your partner more than a regular co-worker – we’re sisters! It’s amazing though because we compliment each other tremendously and we know we could never do this job without one another. A big struggle for us is the business side of everything – contracts, LLCs, taxes, pricing, etc. We have absolutely no background in business, so any pointers are much appreciated!
Details, Darling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a Southern California based wedding coordination and design management company. We’re known for being awesome – duhhhh. Kidding! We’re known for making the best day of your life come to life! The fact that Details, Darling is run by two sisters brings about a culture that is definitely more unique than most. It is a family-based workplace, so our goal is to cultivate love in every aspect of an event that we are apart of. We also recognize how expensive it can get to put on a wedding. We want to help our clients host the party they have always imagined and drooled over on Pinterest, yet not break their bank account while doing it. Something we are most proud of as a company is that we have never received a bad review or negative comment. Our couple’s and their families always leave us very happy and grateful, which is the best feeling ever. We get to play a large part in the biggest day of their lives and that is pretty rewarding.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Are you happy? Are you doing what you love? Are you showing love to others?
If you can answer yes to all those questions, then you are successful! Obviously, we set goals for our companies and want to have a steady income, but those successes don’t matter if you aren’t happy or making a difference in another person’s life.
