Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Sanchez.
Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Boss Babe Jewelry while earning my Bachelor’s Degree full time at Whittier College. Not only was I a full-time student, but was also working two jobs. I worked as a server at a local restaurant and in operations at a Gym in La Mirada. Throughout that time, I was saving each paycheck for future capital and creating multiple business plans. I had always known I wanted to start a business someday, it was just a matter of figuring out exactly what I wanted to do.
I decided to sell jewelry when I visited the jewelry district in Los Angeles. I was in awe seeing the buildings that were filled with diamonds that sparkled and chains that glimmered. Besides the beauty of the pieces that surrounded me, I had realized the effect it had on those wearing it. I saw an instant boost of happiness and confidence when someone tried on a piece of jewelry. The inspiration of my business was discovered that day, I knew I wanted to sell a product that provided people with that feeling.
Has it been a smooth road?
I launched my online business on March 1st, two weeks before the global pandemic shut down the U.S. I would be lying if I said that this didn’t worry me. Who was going to want to buy jewelry just to be stuck at home? The manufacturers I work with were closing and my jeweler’s hours of operations were inconsistent and minimal. It became extremely difficult to receive inventory. I genuinely thought my business wasn’t going to survive beyond the first few months. However, I refused to fail without giving it my all. I had no choice but to stay positive and keep pushing.
Almost eight months later and my business has launched multiple collections, gained 2000+ followers on Instagram, and sold internationally. However, I can’t give myself all the credit, I have the most loyal and amazing customers that have supported me through this and I really could not have made it without them.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Boss Babe Jewelry story. Tell us more about the business.
Boss Babe Jewelry sells great quality pieces at an affordable price. Since I started this business, it was important for me to offer beautiful pieces without breaking the bank. The gold plated pieces I sell are in the most affordable section of my website called “$10 and below” while vermeil and filled range from $15-$45 depending on the piece. Nothing on my site is over $50. Quality, affordability, and versatility are the three most important factors I take into account when listing items on my site. I believe this combination is what sets my business apart.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The jewelry industry as a whole goes through shifts primarily shown in pricing, for example the cost of gold or silver rising. However, in my specific niche, I predict a large shift in the discovery of affordable gold-filled pieces. I’ve noticed as the amount of small businesses selling higher-quality jewelry increases, consumers are gradually realizing the difference between that jewelry and the lower quality fast fashion pieces that will rust or irritate you within a month. This age group is also one that is not yet spending hundreds on solid gold jewelry and are seeking the next best option.
