We’re looking forward to introducing you to Meaghan Kessman. Check out our conversation below.
Meaghan, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to start my mornings quietly, reading The Daily Stoic and taking a few minutes to write in my gratitude journal. It helps me clear my head before the day gets going. Then I’m in the kitchen making breakfast for my kids and packing their lunches. Once they’re out the door, I make the beds and spend a few minutes organizing my thoughts and writing my to-do list for the day. Having that structure in place first thing helps me feel more focused and keeps the day from getting away from me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Meaghan Kessman, the founder and owner of Meaghan Kessman Home Organization, where I work directly with clients to create homes that feel calm, functional, and beautiful. My approach to home organization is highly personalized and hands on, rooted in both function and beauty. By working one on one, I make sure every detail is thoughtfully considered, from understanding your needs to creating a system that works seamlessly for you.
Organization is deeply personal and I believe the best results come from a strong, direct connection. I take the time to understand how you live, what matters most to you, and how to transform your space into something that feels effortless and sustainable. Lately I’ve been especially focused on helping clients build simple weekly rhythms and routines that make life feel a little lighter and more manageable at home.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Volunteering with Defy Ventures was a big turning point for me, and it’s something I continue to be involved in today. Defy works with currently and formerly incarcerated individuals, helping them build professional skills and develop a new path forward. I went in thinking I was there to help, but I left completely changed by the experience.
Spending time with people who were so open, driven, and committed to rebuilding their lives reminded me how important it is to meet people where they are and to see their full potential, not just their past. It made me think more deeply about second chances, and about how much our environments shape us.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Losing my dad shortly after having my first child, Carter, was one of the most defining moments of my life. It was 15 years ago now, but the impact of those two major life events happening so close together still shapes me. I was navigating the joy and overwhelm of new motherhood while grieving someone who had always been such a steady presence in my life.
Healing has come gradually, with time and perspective. I’ve learned how to carry both the loss and the gratitude alongside each other. That experience made me more aware of how fragile and precious everyday life is, and it’s shaped how I think about presence, priorities, and the kind of life I want to create for myself and my family.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they’d say I really care about creating a sense of calm and connection, both in my relationships and in the spaces around me. I’m someone who values the little things: showing up, being present, keeping things real. I want people to feel comfortable and taken care of, whether it’s through a conversation or the way a home feels.
They’d probably also say I like things to be in order, but not just to be neat. For me, it’s about creating space for what matters most, whether that’s time with people I love or just making the day feel a little more manageable.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do, but it took some time to figure that out. I’ve always loved organizing and creating calm, beautiful spaces. It’s something I’ve done for as long as I can remember, even when I wasn’t calling it a job.
Like most people, I started off doing what I thought I was supposed to do. But eventually, I realized the work that came most naturally to me was also what brought me the most energy and fulfillment. Starting my own business gave me the chance to really lean into that. Now I get to help people create homes that feel good to be in, and that feels exactly right.
