Today we’d like to introduce you to Uriel Saenz.
Hi Uriel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a little boy a began to sew at the age of 4yrs old, I began sewing shoulder pads on an overlock machine. I always had clarity on the two things I liked; justice and beauty. I later went on to serve in the military as a United States Marine where I learned some discipline, leadership skills and attention to detail. after leaving the military with honorable discharges I began my career in retail and fashion where I learned about the ultra-luxury consumer. As i perfected my craft I took every opportunity to engage with the industry in the US and around the world. Ultimately landing me in several global spots and showing my collection as “Featured American Designer” in China, in Paris as “The Ones To Watch” and in Milan as “Emerging Talent”. Most recently we launched our AI Styling tool for stylist and individuals. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe the road was only easy because I didn’t care about the obstacles, tried to not give them too much power. I saw them as opportunity to differentiate myself and do it my way. in addition, I think having been through the best military training (USMC) allowed me to recognize that every obstacle is about mind-over-matter, If I don’t mind it doesn’t matter. those obstacles I trained with allowed me to see that the sooner i get over the fear the faster I can get to the other side. I do have to remind myself of this when it seems I’ve tried it all. My biggest struggle, if I had to name something, would be trying to fit into industries where my individual character and identity were the only key, but instead I was pushing what I thought people wanted. Without realizing that being myself was the only way forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for my fashion, marketing and media careers.
How do you think about happiness?
Joy is freedom and freedom is joy. I’ve learned that throughout the years. I’ve allowed me the freedom to make mistakes, and to celebrate accomplishments. Ultimately the things that bring me the most joy is seeing another person’s face brighten up in my presence or due to how my higher power has led me into their life; if only for a moment. I maintain the freedom to lead with love and tolerance and in hope to leave judgement aside. My daughter is my constant joy and now i also have my service dog Sir Valentino Saenz who is a Working Dogs for Warriors alumna, he’s my ride or die.
