Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Rulin.
Hi Tatiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Of course! My photography journey began after I had my second child in 2019. My husband gifted me a Canon Rebel T7i, and I started taking photos of my boys simply because I wanted to document their childhood and all the little moments that seemed to be passing so quickly.
The more I photographed them, the more I fell in love with capturing genuine connection, emotion, and the everyday beauty of family life. In 2022, I decided to take that passion more seriously and invested in my first photography course through Horizon Found. That experience gave me the knowledge and confidence to take the next step, and I officially launched Tatiana Rulin Photography in December of 2022.
Since then, I have continued learning, growing, and refining my style. Today, I specialize in maternity, newborn, and family photography, creating light, joyful, and timeless images for families in Santa Clarita. What started as a way to preserve my own children’s memories has grown into a business that allows me to do the same for other families. And that is still my favorite part of what I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was building confidence in myself, both as a photographer and as a business owner. I started with a love for photography, but I quickly learned that running a successful business involves so much more than taking beautiful photos. I had to learn about marketing, client communication, pricing, websites, and all the behind the scenes work that clients do not always see.
Balancing the business with motherhood and family life has also been a learning experience. There have been seasons when it felt difficult to give everything the attention it deserved. I have also struggled with comparison and wondering whether I was good enough, especially during the early stages of my business.
Over time, I learned to focus on my own growth and the experience I want to create for my clients. Every challenge has pushed me to learn, become more confident, and build a business that truly reflects who I am.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a maternity, newborn, and family photographer here in Santa Clarita. Basically, I get to spend my days photographing growing bellies, sweet newborns, busy toddlers, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with family life.
My style is light, joyful, and timeless, but more than anything, I want families to look at their photos and feel like themselves. I want the images to be beautiful, of course, but I also want them to capture the connection and personalities that make each family unique.
My sessions are relaxed and focused on movement, especially when young children are involved. I never expect toddlers to stand perfectly still and smile on command because, honestly, toddlers have their own agenda. Instead, I encourage families to play, cuddle, laugh, and interact so I can capture moments that feel genuine.
I think what sets me apart is the experience I create from beginning to end. I help my clients choose the right location, coordinate their outfits, and prepare for their session so they do not have to figure everything out alone. During the session, I guide them every step of the way while still leaving room for real moments to unfold naturally.
I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Many families return year after year, and I get to watch their children grow and document each new season of their lives. Creating beautiful images is incredibly rewarding, but building those lasting relationships has become one of the most meaningful parts of my work.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there is one thing I would love families, especially moms, to remember, it is that you do not need to wait for the perfect season to document your life. You do not need the perfect outfits, perfectly behaved children, or everyone smiling at the camera at the exact same time. Honestly, that last one might be asking a little too much.
The everyday connection and beautiful chaos are often the moments you will miss the most. As moms, we are usually the ones taking the photos, which means we are often missing from them. I truly believe we deserve to be part of our family’s visual story too.
Your children will not look back and worry about whether everything was perfect. They will simply be grateful to have photos that show how loved they were and that you were right there beside them.
