Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Rogowski.
Hi Shelby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
So, how did I get to where I am today? It’s been a journey, but it’s one that I’m incredibly grateful for. I started out as a web and graphic designer, but over the years, I’ve expanded my skills to cover a lot of different areas within brand experience, and now I’m the Executive Creative Director at Bev. I’ve worked hard to build my skill set and have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing brands and be recognized for my work.
I love to create compelling creative work that inspires. There’s something truly special about crafting a message or concept that resonates with people and has the power to inspire and motivate. Whether it’s through words, images, or experiences, I enjoy finding new and innovative ways to engage audiences and leave a lasting impression. I believe that great creative work has the ability to move people and make a difference, and that’s what drives me to always strive for excellence in my work.
Working under creative directors for so long gave me a firsthand look at the challenges and responsibilities of leading a team, and it helped me to develop my own leadership style. I learned what works and what doesn’t, and I’ve taken that knowledge with me as I’ve grown in my career. I’ve always been drawn to the creative field because of the endless possibilities for innovation and self-expression. Being a leader in this industry allows me to inspire and guide others to reach their full potential. I’m passionate about fostering a positive and collaborative work environment where everyone can thrive and create their best work. Leading a team in the creative field is both challenging and rewarding, and it’s something that genuinely ignites me.
I’ve learned a lot along the way to become the creative professional and leader I am today. I’m constantly striving to improve and be the best I can be, and I’m always looking for new ways to engage audiences with my storytelling. I’ve faced challenges and setbacks but never let them hold me back. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The creative field can be tough. People might tell you that you’ll never amount to anything, or they might belittle you in meetings. Sometimes your boss might even steal your work. It’s really disheartening and it can be hard to stay motivated. It’s easy to feel like giving up and moving on, but it’s important to remember that setbacks are just part of the process and sometimes come down to one person’s opinion or taste. You have to stay true to your vision and not let other people bring you down. It takes hard work and determination to succeed in this field, but if you stay focused and keep pushing forward, you can overcome any obstacle. It’s important to remember that no matter what challenges you face, you’ll always land where you’re supposed to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a creative director, my job is to lead a team of creatives and oversee the development of brand campaigns. I’m responsible for coming up with new and innovative ideas and for guiding the team to bring those ideas to life. I work closely with our marketing team to understand their vision and goals and help to translate that into compelling creative work. I’m involved in every step of the process, from planning to post-production, and I make sure that everything is on track and moving forward. It’s a big job, but I love it. There’s nothing quite like seeing a great campaign come together and knowing that you had a hand in making it happen.
For me, the most important campaigns are the ones that provide a bigger message and deeper meaning. I love the feeling of being able to make a positive impact and inspire people through my work. Whether it’s raising awareness for a social cause or promoting a product that has a positive impact on people’s lives, I believe that the most effective campaigns are the ones that speak to something deeper and have the power to make a real difference. In recent years, I have had the privilege of working on campaigns that have had a deeper impact and meaning. For example, last year I had the opportunity to collaborate with Bev and the Old Gays on a campaign that raised awareness for LGBTQ+ issues. It was truly a gratifying experience to be able to use my creative skills to make a positive impact and promote inclusivity. Additionally, I worked with Estée Lauder on a campaign to promote their Emerging Leaders Fund, which supports the development of young women in business. These are just a couple of examples of the type of work that is most important to me— projects that have a bigger message and provide a deeper meaning. I am deeply committed to using my talents to make a positive difference in the world and hope to inspire others to do the same.
One thing that sets me apart from other creative directors is that I’m a multi-disciplinary creative. I’ve got skills in a bunch of different areas like storytelling, design, editing, and photography. Plus, I know how to use a bunch of different software programs, which gives me the same hands-on knowledge as my team. All of this makes me pretty versatile and gives me a unique perspective on projects. I’m able to bring a lot of different ideas to the table, and I’m able to adapt to new technologies and trends. It’s really helpful to have a diverse set of skills because it allows me to collaborate with my team and contribute to the creative process in a meaningful way.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband has been a huge support system and cheerleader in my career and challenges. He’s always pushing me to reach higher and to get out of my comfort zone. It’s really helpful to have someone who believes in me and encourages me to go after my goals. Plus, he’s a music composer, so he’s a creative like me. That makes us a great team because we understand each other’s passions and challenges. It’s really nice to have someone who understands what it’s like to work in the creative field and who can offer support and encouragement when things get tough. I’m really lucky to have him in my life.
