Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley.

Hi Riley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got onto my first film set in Cleveland, OH when I was 20 and instantly fell in love. Worked in ohio for a few years before chasing the work down to Atlanta, GA as it was just taking off. Came up in the AD Dept. and currently working as a 2nd AD in Atlanta. I started the software company By ADs, For ADs LLC in August 2025 as work has been slow for the industry. So I took advantage of the time off to make tools for my job as an AD to make things a little more efficient. At first it was just to help me at work but then I realized that other ADs might find these tools useful as well, so I made them public.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Things in life are rarely a smooth road. I found designing the apps to be a skill I had as I knew what was needed and what was not. But actually coding the apps and getting them through the App Store the first time was a big challenge. Along with starting a company for the first time. Just a lot of new things to learn and took time. After a few headaches I got my first app off onto the market and since then things have gotten easier as less of it is completely new to me now. I’d say the biggest struggle I still deal with is Cloud Syncing between different users in the apps. That has been by far the most technical part of the apps and is always needing updates.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Assistant Director in the DGA. Who was brought up working on big budget action movies. From the Hunger Games to Avengers End Game. I take pride in the projects I’ve worked on. I found the job of an AD fits my personality a lot, I love to be super organized but also enjoy having back up plans when needing to pivot. On a movie set, pivoting is a daily thing. I’ve also found that ADs can set the tone of the working crew set. If the AD hasn’t done their homework or planned for contingencies enough, the set can really turn into a nightmare with people unnecessarily yelling at each other. We all got into film because we love it. No one wants to be frustrated and fighting on set. So, I’ve always found it even more important for me as an AD to know as much info as I can and plan as much as I can to hope to mitigate any future stress on the crew and project. Starting the company, By ADs, For ADs LLC, was just another way for me trying to make my job as an AD more efficient and accurate. The software tools I made for ADs can do just that.
