Today we’d like to introduce you to Pritam Mondal.

Hi Pritam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working as an art teacher in my third year college. The main reason for joining the art teacher .role was to help my family with finances. As a 20 year old adult, coming from a middle class family requires a alot of support and resources to sustain. And i used art as a medium to help my family. The job paid me well, got me first hand experience of the field and it shaped me as an individual. I was among best performing teachers who would be involved in every activity of the school whether it is building curriculums or being involved to core meetings for overall school development.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As per my experience, i think sustaining the flow of energy was the difficult part. I remember being exhausted and out of idea during my classroom sessions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work basically involves creating “good art”. Art that is used for better purpose. Most of my childhood was spent on drawing illustration based on Hindu mythology gods. These things made me more aware about my culture and connected me to my roots.

As I grew, I adapted to different art forms. For instances, i used to use traditional mediums like paints, crayons and pencils, however now I have switched to more digital medium, which involves the use of graphic tablet and a software (eg. Photoshop). But now I try to stick to my traditional tools as they are more reliable and easy to handle. Morever the human element and physical presence of the art matters when visually see a person creating art.

Being an artist has made me more confident and i take pride in it. I am proud that I took this path and created a living out of it. It never makes me feel bored nor does it feel like a burden. Instead it channelizes my energy towards good things. Mentally, I am just transported to a different realm when I create art.

I think the human element is a thing that separates every other artist. Being honest to your work, sending positive message and create good art with purpose is what matters the most.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Being consistent in work is the most precious skill one can have. This lesson has carried me alot of times, some even say ‘talent beats consistency’. Indeed a more hardworking person has a high chance of achieving his goals than a person who is’nt making much effort.

Creative people need a lot of brainstorming to create impactful work. Overtime this energy gets dimished, therefore one needs to be practising consistency as a separate skill set.
