Life & Work with Nicole Grey of Encino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Grey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story began in 2008, at the very start of my real estate career, when I filed for divorce. I was left alone in a home already in foreclosure with two small boys. My husband went to the bank, withdrew the last $10,000 we had, and walked away—leaving my sons and me with nothing. That was the moment my journey truly began.

I was paralyzed by fear. I had no financial support, no nearby family—mine lived in New York—and no safety net. With no other option, I went to my brokerage, Pinnacle Estate Properties, because I needed to earn an income. They connected me with a top agent who needed an assistant. I worked for him while continuing to door-knock and prospect in the late afternoons and on weekends, doing whatever it took to survive.

At the same time, I found my way into the rooms of Al-Anon. Though I am not an alcoholic or addict, Al-Anon is a 12-step program rooted in the principles of AA, and it became my lifeline. I found support, strength, and hope there—and I truly believe it saved my life.

Slowly, things began to change. My hard work started to pay off. By 2012, I was fully self-supporting despite receiving very little child support. In 2013, I became one of the top agents in our Encino office.

Fast forward to today: I have raised two incredible sons entirely on my own. They are now 21 and 24 years old, and I have put both of them through college. My younger son will be graduating this May from WSU.

After surviving and rebuilding my life, I was able to chronicle my journey in a book titled Who’s the Baby? Who’s the Boyfriend? — A Single Mom’s Struggle to Find Success. At its core, the book asks a critical question: What do you do when fear paralyzes you and you feel unable to move forward?

My mission now is to be an advocate for women—especially single mothers—helping them make stronger choices and guiding them from fear to faith. On a broader level, I hope to help facilitate change within a court system that failed my children and me, so that no other woman is left with nothing and no voice.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth road as I was caught in a court system that failed me terribly. My Husband got away with paying nothing for support for 2 years and then when he was ordered to pay I received a measley $500 for 2 kids which is a joke. He never took the boys or helped out with any of the expenses. I was stuck with ALL the responsibilities while he had a Free life. He was abusive and created chaos in our life while I was trying to create stability.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have built am incredible career in Real Estate while being a Single Mom. I just celebrated 20 years as a Top Agent in the Top tier of our entire company of over 1400 Agents. I have helped many Buyer’s & Seller’s over the years and I am well respected in the industry. My company will be getting behind my Live Launch of my first Book “Who’s the Baby? Who’s the Boyfriend? which chronicles my life and helps people walk through their Fear to get to Faith like I did. They have been their since the beginning and have watched the entire process. I am one of the biggest success stories of the company not because I make the most money but because I had the most obstacles against me.

How do you think about happiness?
I’m happy that both of my sons are pursuing their dreams and goals and are well adjusted young men. I’m happy to say I have Peace & Serenity in my Life today.
