Life & Work with Lissa Renn of Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lissa Renn.

Hi Lissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started The Hive in 2008 which originally opened in Silver Lake. With a barbershop background, I was wanting to bridge the gap between higher end hair salons, and the low-key barbershop atmosphere. Wanting to be able to draw a diverse clientele and make anyone feel comfortable walking in and getting their hair done. We opened up the Highland Park location in 2014 as our business grew. We are really grateful to still have that location as we close down Silverlake due to the pandemic. We love northeast LA and the diversity that it brings. Our clients want a lot of unique and different hairstyles which makes our jobs really fun. Our little be take care. Salon is a really tight family and we’re so grateful for our clients loyalty and appreciation.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We were so grateful when we first started to build a clientele very quickly and grow our business to two salons while the bumpiest road for us was the pandemic having to open and close multiple times over a year and a half we were left with the one location in Highland Park after the pandemic, but are so grateful to have weathered the storm and love what our Salon has become and the dedication of our clients

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
