Life & Work with Jennifer Sodini of Los Feliz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Sodini

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a spiritual seeker for as long as I can remember — forever curious about this life and what comes after. Most of that curiosity came from a lot of hardship and loss, which pushed me to seek the deeper “why.”

For a long time I kept my interests a bit more private, because it wasn’t super cool to be into spirituality and anything “witchy” in the early 2000’s but still, I was always seeking, and always the secret weirdo in my friend group.

In 2011 I was working in pop culture, and writing for a famous reality star’s blog. It was fun, and easy, but not completely satisfying. Deep down I was feeling empty and lost, so around this time, through a series of synchronicities, I was drawn to do some deep soul searching, and that choice completely altered my life — and my future trajectory.

I quit that job soon after, and in the summer of 2013, I decided to put my all into building a platform that spoke to my own curiosities but also infused pop culture, art, creativity, and the edges of mysticism. And, thus, evolve + ascend was born. The name came from two tattoos I have, “evolve” on my left wrist – which I got after my father died in 2006 as a reminder to keep growing, and “ascend” on my right wrist – which I got in 2012 as a reminder to keep looking up.

Since the birth of this platform, my business has grown from simply blogging and creating content, to now working as a published author, and consulting in myriad forms of media with other authors, influencers and purpose-driven businesses through my company, Hidden Hand Media.

My latest deck, Be Not Afraid Oracle (Running Press), comes out on April 8th, 2025, and I have another deck, The Feline Mystique Oracle (Running Press) due out in 2026.

I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to be doing the work I do, and for the life I’ve built from following the call. It hasn’t been easy, but, then again, nothing worth having ever comes easily.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! In the summer of 2013, when I decided to start this path, I had a nest egg of 16.68 BTC in a trading platform called Mt. Gox. That was my life savings, and was going to be my buffer to help surf through the beginning phases of starting a business, and to HODL (as they say) for longer term. Right after I launched evolve + ascend, overnight I lost everything, due to the trading platform being hacked.

Naively, I didn’t have a “plan B”, and that loss was devastating. But, where there’s a will, there’s a way. In some ways, being broke is what helped me get resourceful, and learn how to organically grow a social media ecosystem without a budget. I was able to grow our Facebook page from zero to hundreds of thousands of followers all through the relationships I built, in tandem with the content.

It’s very cliche, but the late (and great) author, Alan Watts’ spoke about “what you’d do if money were no object” and that helped get through the hard times, because this is what I would be doing with or without money – and kept pushing through every obstacle despite the odds against me.

Weirdly, now, over a decade later, I got a small percentage of the BTC back that was hacked. While it isn’t the entire amount, there was some beautiful, very karmic, closure to that happening now!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a creative entrepreneur that works in all sorts of media, from consulting through my company, Hidden Hand Media, to writing and creating oracle decks, to managing and curating big social media accounts like evolve + ascend.

I am known in my niche for exploring ancient wisdom in the modern world, while maintaining an irreverent, but accessible tone. My first mass market deck, Amenti Oracle (Running Press), explored the Egyptian concept of Ma’at through the lens of keeping a feather-light heart.

My forthcoming work, Be Not Afraid Oracle, explores “Biblically Accurate Angels” (like the internet meme) but through the lens of The Celestial Hierarchy and angelology rooted in an easy to relate to, and digestible way.

I am most proud of staying grounded in a space that’s riddled with a lot of snake oil. Through my path, I’ve stayed true to my heart, and remained a critical thinker – always with one foot in, and one foot out, forever questioning the great riddle of life. I never wanted to make this work about “me,” but instead about encouraging others to feel empowered in their own gifts, imagination, creativity, and abilities to question the here and now, and the great Mystery.

I’ve been told a lot from my followers that this approach is what’s drawn them to my work, and I take pride in staying kind and humble no matter what successes I achieve. I know, having experienced first-hand, that you can lose everything in the blink of an eye, and in those instances, what actually remains is how you walk through life and how you make others feel.

Choosing kindness is priceless, and the ripples are unquantifiable.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Boundaries are necessary, but don’t allow them to become walls.

Essentially, what I mean by this is to keep an open heart, but be discerning in who and what you let in, especially when you’re first starting out and “green.”

Unfortunately, there will be a lot of folks who may want to take advantage of that, to pay you in “exposure” or lowball you in terms of pricing or a fair rate on commissions. It’s a tempting carrot to get into the mindset of “well, if I do this for x, then y will happen,” or “if I do this for free, maybe it’ll lead to more opportunities.”

Full stop, no.
