Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Ojewole.
Hi Grace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got my first inspiration for music when I was in college living in Washington, D.C. attending Howard University also known as the MECCA. I was new to the East coast and didn’t have a lot of friends so I would explore the city a lot. Each time I would walk through the streets I would always hear go go music. I remember thinking about how I never heard nothing like this before and immediately fell in love with the genre. I also wrote alot of poetry whenever I was bored in my dorm room and had free time. I kept on writing poetry and grew a passion for writing poems. It became one of my hobbies. When I first moved to LA I had many other passions but music always just seemed to be in the back of my mind. And music always seemed to find me one way or another. It’s in my DNA. After a while those poems turned into lyrics and I grew a passion for creating music and songwriting. I can’t see myself doing anything else, I truly enjoy writing and creating my own music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success isn’t always easy but you can never give up. If you truly believe in yourself and you are truly passionate about your art. You have to stay focused on the end goal and understand that the magnitude of success that you want won’t always be easy. There’s going to be bumps in the road but you can never give up on something that you truly love. You have to always believe in yourself and always remember that God has called you for this assignment for a reason.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Afrobeat/ Hip-Hop Rapper born and raised in the Bay Area which is in Northern California. I’m a singer-songwriter, rapper, and an influencer. I love making music because it’s how I can express myself without expressing myself if that makes sense. I really enjoy writing my own music. Like I always say each time I’m in the studio I always take myself back to that place when I originally wrote the song. I remember each event that I went through when I wrote each lyric. I’m able to express myself in each song because I remember the emotion I felt when I wrote those lyrics. That’s why I truly enjoy writing my own music. It’s therapeutic and brings me happiness even when I’m not feeling the best.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel like good luck has played a significant role in my life and business. I’m always reminded that I’m on the right path from the amount of love that I receive from many people about my music. It always motivates me to keep going and to not ever give up even when times get hard. I truly have a passion for creating music and feel good when people give me good feedback about my music. It reminds me that God called me to do this for a reason. And I hope that is to heal people and make them feel good and happy inside.
