Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ J-Wealth.
Hi DJ J-Wealth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a kid I always had an ear for music and was drawn into music production when listening to albums. So when I was presented with the opportunity to learn how to produce music I took advantage of that opportunity because I know it’s rare for someone to take the time to teach you something as detailed and focus based as learning how to produce music. Being a former on air DJ and radio show host I was surrounded by many talented artists and this not only gave me the opportunity to play their music on air but also gave me the opportunity to produce music for them as well and that has played a major part in some of the success I have had today and that’s producing music that we can stand behind and believe in and not music we think other people wanna hear but does not reflect what we truly like as artists and producers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In anything you do it comes a time when you gotta separate yourself from people that don’t align with your journey and that happen over time when I was trying to make a name for myself in the Industry. You try to team with people with this vision of creating an authentic brand and not everyone’s agendas align with you and that’s when egos come in and it’s time to cut people off and move forward. In the beginning it was tough tryna understand why people can let egos overshadow the original plan but in the end that just becomes part of the story of building your own brand and creating your own lane to success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started out as a radio show host on Dash Radio which is now known as Litt Live and as a host and on air DJ I didn’t wanna limit myself as just an on air DJ so I began to DJ for events with Interscope and Geffen records and producing music for artists that I feel are authentic while also releasing projects showcasing my skills as a music producer so when people discover me on music platforms they can see a good body of work. What I’m most proud of is how I have evolved as a music producer and DJ and staying true to myself and not doing things to fit in and turn heads. What I feel sets me apart from others is I am just not a producer of Hip-Hop I am a producer of all genres of music as you can see when you listen to my releases on Apple Music and other platforms.
What’s next?
My future plans are to continue to collaborate with artists that I believe in and when I feel like it’s a good situation I will return to radio and get back to contributing my voice and opinions to some of the things taking place in the industry along with interviewing some of the biggest artist and entertainers in the industry. New mixtapes will be released exclusively on my website djjwealth.com and also content showing me in the studio producing music so you can see my production process behind the scenes so you can feel part of the music seeing how it all comes together.
