Life & Work with Diane Jaime of Downey CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Jaime.

Hi Diane, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey with Nailsbydiaane began during the Covid-19 pandemic back in January 2021 . I was a college student working a full time job scrolling through tik toks for the majority of my free time when suddenly all these diy nail videos and tutorials started to blow up. They would really catch my attention I would spend hours on end saving tutorials and working out all the designs in my head. One day I finally decided to take the leap of faith and go to the nail supply store to buy some beginner friendly supplies and I haven’t put the brush down since . I would beg my family members to let me practice on them funny enough my first official model was my boyfriend ! He’s supported me from day 1 and has never told me my dreams were crazy or unrealistic. I went from practicing nails from inside my bedroom to eventually getting myself a shed in my garage to now having my own salon suite here in downey. I’ve always been extremely artistic often picking up hobbies like customizing shoes and clothes to painting portraits and eventually creating some amazing works of art on nails ! Like I mentioned above, i’ve always had that artistic side of me but if it wasn’t for the constant support from my family and partner I wouldn’t be where I am today .

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles I found along the way were time management from not only being a full time college student but also having a full time job as a preschool teacher. I would do my online classes as well as go to my 9am-6pm job as a preschool teacher and still had to find a way not only to practice doing nails but also work on my social media presence in hopes to reach my desired audience. It was also a struggle to find clients as the nail industry is an extremely competitive market. I would have to constantly keep up with the trends and work on pushing out relevant content as well. Once I feel like I had gotten to a good standing with balancing life , school and my nail business I also had to combat burnout as well. I found that spending time with family and friends during the little free time I did have was the perfect way to balance everything out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed nail technician who essentially does a little bit of it all. I do acrylic nails , gel-x nails , structured manicures , regular manicures and pedicures as well. I would like to say that I specialize in acrylic nails and structured manicures with extreme detail to not only elaborate designs but minimalistic designs as well. I’d like to think of myself as a very swift visual leaner , giving me the advantage of being able to look at a design once and being able to make it come to life, I work out the design and techniques mentally and produce some of the best nail sets i’ve ever seen. I’m most proud of my ability to juggle all of my services while still providing the best quality work with amazing retention and stellar customer service. I believe that my amazing customer service and ability to create relationships with every client that sits in my chair is what sets me apart from others. Whether you’re having a bad , good , or hectic day once you sit in my chair I do my best to help you recenter yourself and enjoy the time getting your services done offering a calm energy and experience.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Some of my favorite apps are tik tok and the motivation daily quotes app. Tik tok not only helps me acquire new techniques for my business but also reassurance that i’m not the only one going through some daily struggles and reminds me that it’s ok to be who you are in this certain time in your life. It also provides guidance when I feel lost or unmotivated. The same goes for the motivation app it’s that little random push of positivity that you need sometimes to finish your day off strong or even when you’re having a horrible day that’s okay too because tomorrow is a new opportunity to have an amazing day.
