Life & Work with Angela Fong-Habeger of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Fong-Habeger.

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Moms can do it all! My friends will say I have lived 5 lives and they all drastically vary from each other! Some people may know me as a former professional WWE wrestler. Yes, that was me. Back in 2007 when I was a 22 years old pro cheerleader, I got signed to a WWE contract and moved to Tampa, FL to train full time. I left my entire life in Vancouver, Canada and took this opportunity during my LAST semester of college (I was able to complete my last semester online and graduated with my bachelors degree). 3 years of learning wrestling skills, being thrown in the air, being on TV and traveling the world…I was suddenly let go from my contract. I was so upset and didn’t know where to go from there. I sold all my belongings, packed up my car and drove 3500 miles to Los Angeles. I’ve always dreamed of living in LA, but not very easy to do as a Canadian. This was my chance!

Once I moved there, I took all sorts of modeling jobs while I pursued acting. In 2014, I got a call for a show called, Lucha Underground, a new Mexican wrestling show. I was super excited when I got cast. The show ran for 4 seasons and I played a ninja named Black Lotus. It was so fun! During this time, I got married and was trying to start a family. It was not an easy journey, as we went through 5 rounds of IVF with no luck. In 2020, we got pregnant with my perfect miracle daughter and then in 2023, I had my darling son. Now, I work full time as the events and promotions manager for Ergobaby and have a side hustle as a balloon artist (balloon displays at events and parties). I love being a mother and it is harder than any job I’ve ever had. It’s 24/7, non stop and it constantly keeps me on my toes. I work hard so I can be with them as much as possible.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One big challenge during my career and life was not knowing exactly what I wanted to do. I went to school and studied Communications, but wasn’t sure what to do with that. When WWE signed me, I was like “Great! This is what I’m meant to do!”. When it ended, I was back at square one. I just knew I always loved working and I have always been a hustler. I knew I liked working with people, I liked being creative and I liked the spotlight to some capacity. I have been working since I was 15 and have always held more than 1 job. I love being financially independent, even if it meant working 2 jobs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I have worked for Ergobaby for 4 years full time and was part time for 4 years before that. It has been one of the most fulfilling roles in my life, as it coincides with me finally becoming a mother after years of infertility (ultimate BEST role is being a mom). I get to use all our amazing and thoughtfully designed products in real life with both my kids. Babywearing has changed my life. Aside from the hands free and convenience aspect, the close bond with my babies while wearing them is indescribable. I manage a team of certified babywearing educators, where we exhibit at baby and parent events across the country like Prego Expo. I handle everything from event logistics, vendors, shipping, travel, schedules, invoices, displays, product trainings and coordinate social media giveaways. You will also see me on our website for product instructional videos and I’m currently on a retail box with my cute son for our newest carrier, the Omni Deluxe that launched earlier this year. Ergobaby values parents and work/life balance, which has been the best experience! I love events, working with other people and the public, being creative and I have a Type A organized personality. It combines all my best skills into one career and I love it!

My balloon side hustle was sort of by accident. I was planning my daughter’s 2nd birthday party and got some quotes for a balloon display. I was shocked at the high pricing and decided to learn myself. I started decorating parties for friends and family. Then in 2024, I booked 8 paid events. This year, my goal was 1 event a month. I have had 13 paid jobs and it’s only halfway through 2025 (thank you referrals from friends and family)! The creative and artistry aspect is what I absolutely love. I get to be a part of people’s big moments, milestones and celebrations. I’ve taken some time to hone my craft, but still feel new at it. I’m constantly learning something after every event and finding ways to lean into my creativity even more by trying new things.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I have had a job since I was 15. I was a server at Denny’s during graveyard shifts. Once I realized I could make more money serving at a higher end restaurant, I left to do that. Then I realized I could make more money bartending at clubs and off I went. I was always a hustler. At one point I had a clothing reselling business on Poshmark and made more than my rent every month. I was even on a dating show one time. One of my favorite long running jobs was being an automotive product specialist, where I travelled across the country talking about new cars. I memorized long scripts, performed on stage, answered consumer questions, did media interviews and some of those shows were up to 12 days long. I learned that there is no shame in your job or career. No shame is changing jobs or trying something new. I remember being embarrassed to get a “normal” job after being on TV, and honestly…who cares. I want to provide for my family and my kids will always come first. You gotta do what you gotta do, especially now with everything being so expensive. Some people get a job out of college and retire there after 50 years. Others try multiple different career paths and there is no right or wrong with either of those. Honestly, I prefer the latter. It keeps things interesting!
