We recently had the chance to connect with Sihle “Zee” Vilakazi and have shared our conversation below.
Sihle “Zee”, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
What many people don’t realize is that they’re stuck in routines rooted in their past, not designed for their future. When faced with uncertainty, it’s easy to fall back on familiar habits—even if those habits no longer serve us. Growth requires building new routines that align with who you’re becoming, not who you used to be
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative based in Los Angeles—an actress, dancer, film production manager, and co-owner of a creative space in San Pedro. I’m also the founder of ZeeinLA, a platform dedicated to helping international students navigate life in LA—from housing and finances to cultural adjustment and legal support.
Expanding on that mission, I’m launching a YouTube channel to provide accessible resources for newcomers to LA, and working on BTS (Behind The Sound), a multimedia creative agency for vertical films, podcasts, YouTube content, and more—a true hub for storytelling and collaboration.
In addition, I’m developing a Student Creative Access Program designed to help international students build portfolios and gain the legal, creative, and financial support they need to transition to the next phase of their visa journey. Our goal is to demystify immigration, connect students with trusted, affordable legal professionals, and create a clearer path forward in their creative careers.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the true meaning of hard work is my mom. She’s been the foundation of the work ethic I carry today. As a single parent, she built and runs four clinics and a therapy bar—balancing business, motherhood, and ambition with grace. Watching her push through challenges and thrive has shown me what Black excellence truly looks like. She’s the reason I believe in the power of dedication, vision, and resilience.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
It’s not something I miss—it’s someone. I miss my grandma deeply. Even as I work toward my goals and know she’s watching over me, I still wish I could hug her, sit down for tea, and share where I am in life. We were very close, and I’m so grateful for her strength—for raising my mom, who became the powerhouse that raised me. I just wish she could see me now, in person, and we could talk about everything I’m building. I carry her spirit with me in everything I do.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m deeply committed to launching the Student Creative Access Program—a platform designed to support international students in building portfolios, gaining necessary credits, and securing the resources they need to pursue creative careers and visa opportunities. I’ve seen too many talented peers held back not by lack of skill, but by lack of access, funding, or guidance. This program is my way of creating that support system—because the sooner it’s available, the sooner students can truly thrive.
Alongside that, I’m equally passionate about transforming our space in San Pedro into a vibrant hub for creativity—a place where people can freely express themselves, connect, and collaborate. Whether you’re working on a business idea, a creative project, or simply looking for community, this space is being built to empower. It’s more than a location—it’s a launchpad for possibility.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
If I could be remembered for anything, it would be my character—the light, joy, and warmth I brought into people’s lives. Whether through a two-minute conversation, a simple greeting, or a lifelong friendship, I hope I helped others feel seen, supported, and inspired. If I was able to plant even a small seed in someone’s journey toward becoming who they were meant to be, then that would be the legacy I’d be proud to leave. Just being a light—that’s everything to me.
