We’re looking forward to introducing you to Riley Silos. Check out our conversation below.
Riley, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Training for the World Championships in Eskrima in the morning, then spending the rest of the day on everything music…songwriting, recording/singing, social media, rehearsals, dancing, and networking. I release a single every 4 weeks.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Riley Silos, 24, is a talented Pop, Funk, Soul, and R&B singer/songwriter. He performs his original music in the LA scene with his 19-piece band, The Prodijam. He releases a single every 4 weeks.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Riley is a distinguished athlete. He was an elite AAA national champion hockey player and a champion Olympic recurve archer, competing globally. Currently, Riley is the reigning US Grand Champion in all weight divisions for both single stick and double stick in Eskrima (Kali). He qualified for Team USA. Riley is currently ranked number one and is the World Champion.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
After becoming World Champion in stick fighting Eskrima for Team USA, I gained clarity that life goes on and most people don’t care as much about us as we think. Now I do everything for myself and my own journey, no longer seeking validation from anyone subconsciously.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There are times when I doubt or worry about whether I will make it as a singer-songwriter, but I always come back to the feeling I get from performing live and writing original music. I would be more worried if I ever lost that passion, which I do not see happening anytime soon haha.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Too many singer-songwriters take input too seriously and fall into a rabbit hole of chasing trends or trying to sound modern. Prince said it best: art is a success based on creation, and making songs for yourself and no one else is the key to creating real art.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Treat others the way you want to be treated. Life is not complicated.
