Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Riccardo Gresino of Valley Village

We recently had the chance to connect with Riccardo Gresino and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Riccardo, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Thank you for having me back again; I appreciate sharing my journey and approach.
What I am most proud of ”building” every day is the capability of being Present. It’s an incredible skill that takes place inside yourself, and (at its first stage) nobody can see it, since you are the only one who can lead the process and truly want it to happen.
Being present should be constantly fed and empowered, as a result, it brings you true joy and life appreciation.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Riccardo Gresino, keyboard player and producer based in Los Angeles.
I love working closely with artists and crafting soundscapes through my skills as a keyboard player. A strong characteristic of my work is the ability to process the artist’s message and translate it into sounds that convey exactly that feeling. In specifics, those can be harmonies, timbers, voicing, and melodies.
I focus on serving the message/emotion behind a song more than showcasing or over-imposing myself. This amplified the core emotion inside the primordial idea and elevated it to a wider outcome. I believe this is the purpose of music.

So far, I’ve performed, produced and recorded alongside established musicians such as Gayathri Krishnan (writer and producer of “Made it” and upcoming single “Your Love” alongside performing at SXSW), Tristan Simone (producer for “Good Grief” album), Rubel (worked on his 2023 Latin Grammy nominated record “AS PALAVRAS”), Presley Tennant, Anna Margo, Gianni Coscia (ECM Records), SESSI, AM Dandy, and more.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Ultimately Ego. It deprives you of the capability of perceiving the outside world without any preconception. Observing it from afar and recognizing it will set you free. This process can potentially restore a bond between people if both sides are willing to interact again.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I consider myself lucky; my family has always been a solid and resilient source of inspiration. When I started encountering struggles in the outside world, I always found clarity in nature and activities. Spending time outdoors, exploring, hiking, sports, and working in the garden always felt incredibly rewarding to me. I always need these activities to keep a balance.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m confident in saying yes for this one. I don’t want to spend my time growing another myself only to please the public; I’d rather invest that time in experiencing new things and riding my motorcycle. Feeling good with myself will positively affect others and ultimately give more joy and rewards.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
We are going pretty deep into the rabbit hole here ahah, but I like this conversations.
I guess this would mean reaching the purest state of being. To be fully attentive and dedicated to what’s happening in the present moment.
I believe that the part of me that will be still alive in this new dimension would be energy / drive to make things happen together with other people.
