Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jessica Law of Silverlake

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jessica Law. Check out our conversation below.

Jessica, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am currently enrolled in a Master’s program at the Ontario College of Art & Design studying Strategic Foresight & Innovation.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jessica Law (known by a lot of my peers as J Law), and I am a multi-hyphenate creative, whose work has spanned from producing, directing, & styling — across the commercial, branded content, film, and art spaces. As a storyteller, my vision is rooted in empathy, beauty, and celebrating the human condition from an empathetic lens. I believe storytelling has the power to change how we see ourselves, the world, and what we can become.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The last few years I have been focusing on releasing fear. I can’t articulate what purpose it once served, but I can see what happens when I operate from a place of fear, and i’m done letting it guide me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has been one of my greatest teachers—without suffering, I could never know the full depth of joy or embody the presence of pleasure. The contrast, or the dance between shadow and light, that has given my life meaning, texture, and beauty.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to the belief that imagination is the key capable of unlocking an entirely new future.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Anything and everything that wasn’t a full body yes.
