We’re looking forward to introducing you to JayJay Drums. Check out our conversation below.
JayJay, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
This year of touring the world besides a Major Artists really brought me joy. Experiencing many different countries, cultures and events has lightened up my year on the road. What a feeling to reach your goals and enjoy the present moment.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m JayJay , Drummer and Musical Director from France, now based in Los Angeles and touring the world with major artists. Music and entertainment are my true passions, I live for the energy of performing and the magic of bringing a show to life. Being on the road is where I feel most fulfilled; it’s my home, my source of happiness, and constant inspiration. I love collaborating with new people, creating unforgettable moments, and embracing the diversity of cultures and countries I encounter along the way.
Fortunate enough to Speak three languages, I love to connect with people inside and outside my field.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The beauty of our work as entertainers and musicians is that we never stop learning. Every person you meet along the way has something to teach you, no matter their age, background, or experience. That’s one of the things I love most about touring ,you collaborate with so many different people and teams that it constantly broadens your perspective and keeps your mind open. You can prepare as much as you want, but nothing compares to what you learn on the job. I always try to take something away from every experience, whether it’s a tip from another drummer, a unique approach from a crew member, or even realizing what not to do. Growth doesn’t always come from success; sometimes it’s in those small realizations. That’s the real beauty of what we do: we prepare, we live it, we learn, and we take something meaningful away every time.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
I’ve recently realized how important it is to embrace your own personality as a musician , and as a creative person in general. Skills are essential, of course, but what truly makes people connect with you is the energy and vibe you bring. For a long time, I believed I had to be the best drummer out there , the most technical, the most adaptable, able to handle anything perfectly. But that mindset constantly left me feeling behind, like walking into a meeting late , off balance and lacking confidence.
Now, I see myself as my own unique flavour. Not everyone will resonate with it, and that’s okay. There are always other creatives who will align with your vision, your sound, your energy , and that’s when real collaboration and artistry happen. It’s so important to embrace who you are, let your true self shine, and trust that your individuality is your strongest voice.”
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
That’s a great topic. I’m very intentional about keeping a balance between my private and public life. Playing for major artists means being exposed, on stage, and of course, on social media, but I like to keep a clear separation between the two. What I share online is just one facet of who I am, one face of the diamond.
I see social media as an amazing tool for promotion and for sharing what we do on the road or in the studio, but my personal life belongs to the real world. I don’t feel the need to share everything I’m doing or thinking, I prefer to live those moments fully, offline.
I notice that a lot of people seem more active online than in real life, but for me, it’s the opposite. I love being present and enjoying every minute of what I do. It’s such a privilege to make a living doing what you love, and for me, the most important thing is to live it, not just post about it.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Absolutely nothing! I’m genuinely happy and proud of everything I’ve done so far. From failures to doubts to big wins ,I embrace it all. I’ve always lived and led my career by taking big risks to reach big goals. Stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring new directions in my music is something I’ve learned to enjoy. I never want to look back with regret.
I like to see my life as a constant uphill climb, I never really see the top, but I’m always moving forward, whether the path is steep or smooth. The choices we make aren’t always easy, but I’ve learned to trust my gut. As long as your feet are firmly on the ground and your head is held high, nothing is impossible , you just have to be bold enough to take the risk and not look back.
