Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ghia Arroyo of Upland, California

Ghia Arroyo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Ghia, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ince breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
At the moment, I’ve been obsessed with seed bead charms and I’ve taken it upon myself to learn how to create them. If you’ve seen my Pinterest board it is full of mini seed bead charms and it just amazes me. I am currently creating a berry and it is just so satisfying seeing it slowly create it shape. Specifically 3D seed bead charms.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ghia of Arroyo Arrangements, named after my family’s last name. At the time there wasn’t much thought to the name, but I am proud to be part of the Arroyo clan and have a business that represents my family. I am proud to be a Filipino and women-owned business.

What my mission is to have clients and guests have a experience that goes beyond just floral decor. I want all their senses to play when seeing our floral designs or tablescapes. The newest trend right now with using produce or fruits I just love and I am here for it. Nothing is more exciting when I see guest picking at the fruit or taking a bite. I want guests to interact. Even seeing the slight texture changes of melting taper candles tells you that time has passed and people are living their lives. More than an event, this will be a memory for our guests and we feel honored to be a part of it. The more details to design the better!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Define child lol. I feel like we are all still adult children experiencing things for the first time. I felt like as a kid I believe to be rich was to have the money or get a white-collar career. That rich was only one requirement and that was to have money. the house, etc.

That isn’t true and I don’t believe that now. Real luxury to me now are my quiet mornings, traveling when I want to, no cap on my income, working a career I absolutely feel fulfilled in, and showing up because I can for my friends/family. Money comes and goes, but our time we can’t get back. I feel rich and grateful I am living my life on my own terms.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
My Aquarius sister! Not going to say her name, but the last few intimate convos we had I just felt seen because we think alike. She heard me and basically pin pointed my pain areas because she has had experiences with it, Accountability partners are the best in that and you just don’t feel so alone.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I am going to get a little “woo woo”, but the universe, God, whoever you believe in is with you and never against you. This is a feeling and thought I hold true and its easier said then done. I can’t prove it, but it makes me feel lighter and since being on this creative path it feels like the universe is saying it is for you. Nothing is a coincidence. As Kali would sing there are “Angels All Around Me…”

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would probably stop caring what people think. I am a black sheep so I already sometimes don’t care, but I have my insecurities still lol.
