Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Farley Granger Jr. of Cerritos ca

Farley Granger Jr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Farley, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Since i retired from racing and teaching out on the motocross track I have been quietly and diligently been building a new identity, basically stripping down everything thing I know that others know about me and rebuilding myself from the ground up, physical health, mental health, emotional intelligence and awareness and so much more.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Farley Granger Jr. 37, born and raised in Southern California, I’m a retired motocross racer of about 25 years. I now own and run my company ASSORTED basically buying and upcycling preowned couches. I at first created this company to initially free myself from the rat race and finally live in my purpose of being a full time entrepreneur. I started in 2021 right after the pandemic with the idea that I wanted to build a life not only on my terms but basically one that could eventually evolve into one that can inspire others who like me spent their lives under one identity but evolved into something more.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Honestly there have been so many moments thatbits tough to pick one but the one that stands out to me was when I received my first motorcycle at the age of 6, at this age was the first moment where I knew who I wanted to be which was my own man and my own person that live on his own terms. this later shaped my perception that everything was mine for the taking and that I could do and be anything that I wanted.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back most in life is not having enough fear. for some this sounds like an asset but for me this was a liability because i carried the philosophy of do what ever i want how ever I want regardless of how anyone feels which for me was sending me down a very reckless path. Based off what I learn during my years racing is that there are no such thing as fears but more of a response to something not yet experienced.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Someone once told me that I had the spirit of a warrior and I beloved it ! Only problem is I used to have what I called an immortal complex where I thought I couldn’t die and unfortunately racing can do that to you sometimes.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am living proof of what happens when you live as yourself for yourself but that can be shared and inspired around the world.
