Drew Harwood shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Drew, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Gratitude journaling, three goals for the day and then meditation before I open my phone.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an LA-based actor, writer, director, with Cannes festival credits and a recurring role on the Emmy-nominated series The Pitt.
Over the past five years I’ve raised nearly $1M to make two feature films that I wrote, directed, produced and distributed.
I’m currently developing a 1970s period one hour drama series (Tough Bird) while also producing a documentary, Devoted In Time, shot entirely on the Bolex Camera and filmed worldwide, from NY to Switzerland. It’s slated for release in 2026.
On the acting side, I recently recurred in four episodes of The Pitt (Farley Barnes Ep. 112-115).
My directorial work blends character-driven storytelling, with visual lyricism. Projects like The One You Feed (distributed by Gravitas Ventures), and Rebel Rebel (distributed by Safier Entertainment).
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe the bonds between people, whether family, friendship, or love, are often held together by trust, vulnerability, and shared meaning.
In my experience, bonds usually break when fear is stronger than love, and they’re restored when love becomes stronger than fear.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I believe success rewards the external, but it rarely asks you to confront your shadows. Suffering does, and because of that, it changes the soul in a way success never could.
Suffering teaches you how to be human. Success teaches you how to be admired.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they’d probably say I care most about truth, loyalty, and redemption, proving there’s always a way forward, no matter what you’ve been through.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Well, I hope the story people tell about me when I’m gone isn’t about the mistakes or the victories I made, but the fact that I never stopped showing up. That I loved hard, told the truth, and tried to make beauty out of broken things. I hope they say I left people feeling a little less alone.
