We recently had the chance to connect with Deanna Rowland and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Deanna, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I review all the tasks I need to do for the day and prioritize them. I’ll do a quick read through of whatever scripts I’m working on, then I’ll eat a snack and get ready to workout.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I was born in Italy but mainly raised in Las Vegas. My dad was in the military so I moved around a bit when I was growing up and although I have lived in multiple states, Vegas is where I spent the most time and resonate with. I went to THE Ohio State University for undergrad and afterwards moved to Southern California. A couple years later, I began my acting career.
I am now over three years into my acting journey and it has been extremely fulfilling. I do a lot of tv and film work, and also dabble in other areas. This past summer I participated in my first summer theatre production. When I’m not on set or on stage, I am actively being coached in scene work and doing stunt training. You can also find me exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends, and working out during my downtime.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up I believed that I had to follow a traditional life path in order to be successful. Over time I’ve learned that it’s okay if how and what I choose to do with my life looks different than others, especially when other people in my life have not made their careers in an artistic space and follow more traditional goals. We hold space to respect each other even when we don’t agree, but at the end of the day it’s your life and what makes you happy. If you choose to fully commit to your goals and work hard, it doesn’t matter what it looks like to others.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust yourself.
I definitely used to second guess myself a lot before making decisions, to the point where I would get so caught up in the negative “what-ifs” that I couldn’t decide things until the very last second. The majority of the time, I knew exactly what I wanted from the beginning but I let doubts overshadow what I already knew. I would tell myself to trust that you know yourself and what is best for yourself and take the leaps of faith that are necessary.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Bettering myself. Theres always room for self reflection and growth. I’m very proud of who I am today, and how far I’ve come from the past. I’m excited to see how I continue to grow in the future.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I already place a high value on making every moment count. Life is short and we never know how much time any of us has left. With that in mind, I value the time I get with those close to me, and try to make life decisions that are meaningful and impactful to others.
