Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Day Lewis of Hawthorne

Day Lewis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Day, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Honestly, work is my joy. I feel like when I’m not working my brain is trying to figure out how to get another account or looking for more “work”. When I have idle time I start
to process things that don’t necessarily bring me joy. Also, if I’m being completely honest dating and spending time with friends brings me joy these days lol.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Day, owner of Daymechelle Photography. I create an experience for people that lasts forever through stills and visual storytelling. What makes DMP special is its ability to touch so many different people from so many different walks of life. DMP isn’t just commercial it’s corporate, sports, kids and much more! The DMP experience is working to scale bigger and better than ever before!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Something that breaks bonds between people is broken boundaries and what can restore that conversation and accountability.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think about giving up more often than not because I feel like I think I should be doing more or at a certain point in this game being that I’m 10 years in. However, I remind myself I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That it’s over saturated and although it may seem that way I feel like it’s a lane for everyone even if the lanes seem to merge. It’s money out there you just have to go get it.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d stop second guessing and just take the risk! The older I get the more I think about risk vs. reward.
