Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Alexander Orozco

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alexander Orozco. Check out our conversation below.

Alexander, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Intelligence and energy are great, but integrity is my non-negotiable. My parents taught me that early, and it’s become the bedrock of my brand. That commitment to principle is why we’re respected in the streets and why the brand stands as a powerhouse today.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My real name is Alexander Orozco (cuando como no conozco), Thehoodfoodie, a culinary storyteller and content creator dedicated to uncovering the heartbeat of the food scene. My mission is to bridge the gap between high-end dining and the hidden gems found in the corners of our neighborhoods—the places with the most soul and the best stories.
What makes my brand special is authenticity over aesthetics. While everyone is looking for the most ‘Instagrammable’ plate, I’m looking for the most honest one. I focus on the culture, highlighting the people behind the counter, not just the food on the plate, proving that world-class flavor doesn’t always require a white tablecloth, using food as a universal language to bring different ‘HOODS’ and backgrounds together.
I started this journey because I realized that the best meals I ever had weren’t in magazines; they were in local spots that the mainstream media often overlooked. I wanted to give a voice to those people behind the scenes, who are the backbone of their communities.
Currently, my primary focus is bringing “Rollin’ with Thehoodfoodie” to life. While people know me for being in front of the camera, this project offers a completely different experience. As I visit street vendors, food trucks, and restaurants, I am met with pure joy. We share our stories—the losses and the triumphs—laughing, crying, and celebrating with the people. It is this behind-the-scenes connection that will truly inspire people.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with God has made me who I am. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I’ve learned that the best things in life are worked for—including self-love. I used to wonder why God placed me in the food industry when I was such a picky eater who didn’t know how to cook! But I see now that it’s about so much more than what’s on the plate. Food is just the bridge; my real calling is using my personality and charisma to care for and inspire the people around me.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I believe that I started healing myself in the first podcast interview that I was invited to, not knowing that I didn’t have any filters if you asked me any questions and this was right after I had hit my rock bottom, so I spoke about my depression, autism, diabetes, my truth, laughing, crying, showing every emotion that you can think of, in front of my Latino community and many more, inspiring so many and now they inspire me.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I’ve always believed that the most inspiring people are those who put others before themselves. Having experienced that responsibility firsthand, I can tell you: it is not for the weak.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Through my story, I want people to see that I wasn’t the ‘sharpest tool’—I’ve struggled with a poor memory, depression, dyslexia and so many more obstacles that I could have easily used to throw in the towel. I never had money and started with nothing. There was a time when I felt completely broken, unable to hold a job or find a career path. But I turned my life around to create Thehoodfoodie, one of the biggest food brands in L.A. I built this with minimal resources and still operate that way today. If I can achieve this with so little, what’s stopping you?
