Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Alejandro Gonzalez Gomez of Los Angeles

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alejandro Gonzalez Gomez . Check out our conversation below.

Alejandro , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes. My mother makes me laugh a lot.
She has a very practical approach to life which also carries a lot of wisdom and humor. Everything in my life can be a complete disaster and struggle and she will always find a way to make me laugh with this direct and honest approach to problems but somehow finds a humorous side to it.
She brings a lot of quick wit to the table.

As far as feeling proud…. We just had our song SHADOW HEART remixed by John Bechdel the keyboardist from the Industrial Metal bands Ministry and Fear Factory who I’ve been listening to since I was a teenager. I would have never imagined that would happen. So I’m definitely proud of that. Shout out to No devotion records from Mexicali B.C
For making that possible.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alejandro Gonzalez Gomez from the Electronic/Rock/Avant Garde/Bilingual band called ALÉ.

I started with a small drumset at age 3 which was destroyed within 3 days.

Then with a Casio keyboard in the latr 80s at around age six which I loved but for some reason didn’t quite completely fulfill me so it ended up in the closet collecting dust after a while.

The finally at 12 years old I started strumming the electric guitar and immediately became obsessed.
I found that I could strum it really hard and aggressively like I would strike the drums in a drumset, but it would also produce sounds like a keyboard would..
When I felt both of those worlds come together I knew that I was hooked for life.

I started attempting to scream around 19 and when I got over that I started to actually sing around 22. I eventually fell in love with Singing more than anything because It is the ultimate freedom for me to have my own voice and back it up with vitality, expression and emotion.

So now I write songs with every instrument I picked up in my childhood.
I program drums sometimes.. I absolutely love synthesizers and keyboards still play guitar.

As far as our live performances go and for most recordings I have my drummer Roro Lofish behind the drum set. This dude is in the top 10 drummers in all of Los Angeles according to me. I’m calling it. I mean this guy is Bad.
He is hilarious. He’s very positive and energetic. His drumming style is very similar to John bonham’s style of drumming and that’s one of my favorite drummers. He Brings zero drama to the table and gets the job done no matter what it takes. And that’s the only type of musicians and artists I like to surround myself with these days. The type that will do whatever it takes to get the job done. No excuses.
There is a standard and I always see it as you’re either going to meet me at the standard or above the standard. Anything below wont cut it.

We have basically developed a guitars riding electronics sound that we really enjoy creating and performing with.

I also own my own fully equipped private studio Called Operating on Dreamtime Productions and that’s where we work and record from. I’m also a freelance recording engineer. And producer. A certified pro tools specialist thru avid technology and I just scored my first short film called The white lighter last year which was a project out of Cal state Northridge by Jake Hurst.
I absolutely love scoring film and can see myself doing that as a day job.

I think what makes this band unique is our originality and one of a kind approach to Rock n roll music.
Obviously there have been many bands in the past who have mixed both Rock and electronic music but not quite like us and I say that while also suggesting that you listen to our music to know what I actually mean. We are a duo for now and we get many compliments for that especially in a live show setting because people always tell us it sounds like there’s 5 or 6 people on stage.

Ultimately i will say that thru my life experience between all the ups and downs what makes the band ALÉ special and what it represents is the struggle to survive and the will power to go on.
Danger lurks everywhere but we walk with faith and because you guys contacted me and I hardly ever do interviews anymore I want to take the opportunity right now to say that we are both believers in Christ and we don’t roll with anyone else spiritually.
I wouldn’t say that we are “Christian” Rock because our sound is too Gritty for that label but it is Authentic and in your face.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Word is bond.
All you have in this world is your word.
And if you can’t keep your word you will eventually lose valuable people.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Absolutely everything.
I eventually got to the point where I craved the suffering because of the power I receive from it after I alchemize it you can’t obtain any form of commercial success until you’ve obtained personal success in your own life as an individual. If you do obtain commercial success without personal success you will eventually crumble.
Suffering is the ultimate foundation to strength and the world is a very rough place. You will need a lot of heart to take on the world so strengthen and rest your heart as much as possible.
The more suffering you’re willing to endure the more strength you will obtain.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
This is a great question.
The music industry reminds me a lot of High school. And we never truly left high school Lol.

A lot of it is a popularity contest and everyone wants to be the “Star” but only very few are willing to bleed and shed tears for the amount of work it takes to become a highly skilled artist who owns their craft.
So going back to answering the question… I think the music industry is a somewhat of a lie within itself. Not to be negative but a lot of artists and music that’s out here today would not survive back in the 80s or 90s. It’s just lacks a lot of substance. But I will also say that I do have a few favorite new bands and artists that I listen to a lot as well.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people just acknowledge that I did my absolute best and came out here guns a blazing as an artist with absolutely no Fucks given.
Because we think we have time and we actually don’t. With that being said I hope that people just remember my tenacity and bravery and become inspired by it. Because the clock is ticking every single day that our heart is beating. So don’t waste time.
