We recently had the chance to connect with Kenneth McCoy and have shared our conversation below.
Kenneth, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A recent moment that made me proud was winning a broadcast media award and commendations from State and Federal congressional leaders. My wife and family were present to see rhe ceremony. They have witnessed the many hours that I put in over the years to my craft.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ken McCoy, sydicated and published media consultant in the areas of photography, video and audio podcasting. As talent, I have hosted on International TV and my photographic work has been published extensively worldwide. I have also written photographic courses and lectured nationally. My “Ken McCoy Entertainment Report” is pending new sydication for next year.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
As a child, I recall that I had an idea to have a party. I did not have any money, so I made an announcement in front of a group of neighborhood kids about my party. Of course they all said they wanted to go and what they could bring.
Of course, the event was huge and everyone had a great time. I reflect on this many times in my life now as motivation of what can be done with very little.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I had a scheduled meeting with a very busy client that I had wanted to reconnect with for more business and a proposal. Unfortunately, my wife became very ill and was hospitalized. This concern caused us to cancel a 5-day vacation to the coast and caused major stress and worry for my and our kids.
I missed my business appointment. When I called the client, he was mad, but said to come by. I thought everything was fine, but when I got there he was furious. I told him about my wife’s hospitalization, but he said “Business is business”.
I was now mad at his insensitivity to my situation but I felt that I had to redeem myself. I left his location and told him I will call him in 30 minutes. Remember, I was hurt and mad at the same time! After calling a new golf course at an exclusive location, I told him to have the 3 limos there on a scheduled date. It happened and he could not believe that I could get it done. That was redemption for me!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe that I have to be focused to be effective. As I explained this concept to my wife, there are times that I have to clear my mind while thinking the project through. This includes scripts, outlines, helpers,
You have to act in accordance with what you want. In other words,y ou have to put on the action and not expect anything less. My quote is “Preparation reduces Perspiration”, so I have to be prepared. Whatever it takes: 2 am check in, review an outline, location set up, copy credentials, arrive early to location, back up computers, etc.
Some would not do this.
