We’re looking forward to introducing you to katery G. Check out our conversation below.
Hi katery, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is my inner world and my decisions. Since I was very young, I’ve known exactly where I wanted to go and what I wanted to create. Every decision I’ve made has been with that vision in mind. I’ve built a life that feels like mine — one where I wake up every morning free, without any obligations to anyone else’s expectations.
I’m proud that I’ve designed my days, my months, and my years according to my own rhythm. I’m grateful for not having rushed into responsibilities that weren’t meant for me — like having children too early or living a life that didn’t align with my spirit.
What I’ve built, quietly and patiently, is a strong sense of self. I’ve learned to find peace within me, to value my own company, to treat people with integrity, and to create from a place of love and freedom.
Lately, I’ve realized how ephemeral life is — how every connection, every encounter, every moment is unique and will never happen again. I think that’s what I’ve truly built: the ability to recognize the beauty in what’s fleeting, to value what can’t be repeated, and to live from a place of presence and gratitude.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I could say I’m an artist, but more than that, I see myself as a lifelong learner. I love observing, understanding, analyzing, visualizing, and creating. My curiosity has allowed me to explore different worlds — from music and storytelling to performance, directing, and editing.
I’m fascinated by beauty and human nature. In everything I do — whether it’s music, film, or performance — I try to capture emotions, explore what makes us human, and share what I see and feel from an honest place.
Right now, I’m working on my debut music album, which is actually a short film divided into chapters — each song represents one chapter. We’re currently in post-production. It’s a sci-fi story that reflects on humanity and invites introspection.
I recently moved back to Los Angeles, building meaningful relationships and staying open to new opportunities to tell stories — whether through film, series, or music. Just yesterday I had my first musical theater audition here, and it was such a soul-nourishing experience.
Earlier this year, I also directed a commercial in Mexico — not my first one, but a very special project with a new production company that opened fresh creative paths for me as a director.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my roots — with my family and with my country, Mexico. I’m proudly Mexican. I think Mexico is one of the most beautiful countries in the world; we have everything — culture, colors, warmth, talent, generosity, unbelievable landscapes, precious animals, amazing food. Yet, I also believe that, for a long time, our national narrative has been somewhat self-destructive, not because of who we are, but because of the stories we were told about ourselves.
I see a parallel between that and my personal journey. I deeply love and honor my family, but I’ve learned that to evolve and reach the places I aspire to, I sometimes need to transform certain beliefs I grew up with. Honoring my roots doesn’t mean repeating everything I inherited — it means transforming what no longer serves me into something that brings me peace, wisdom, and growth.
For me, one of the pillars of being both an artist and a human being is evolution — the courage to understand where we come from, to be compassionate with it, and to transmute it into something greater. That’s how we expand, and from that expansion, we can share more, love more, and give more — because you can only be truly generous when you’re not living in scarcity.
And that, to me, is the true spirit of Mexico — a country full of generosity, compassion, abundance, joy and light. I want to help shift the focus back to that essence, to show how powerful we truly are when we remember who we are.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I’ve had several defining wounds, but rather than focusing on the pain itself, I like to focus on how healing happened — because that’s where transformation lives.
One of my deepest wounds came from my relationship with my mother. She didn’t believe in me — in my voice, or in my dream of becoming an actress. She carried resentment because she felt her own dreams were interrupted when she became a mother, and for many years, I unconsciously carried the guilt for choices that weren’t mine.
There were other painful experiences with different people too — moments of violence, sexual violence, betrayal, even situations that affected my body, my health and my finances. But through all of them, I learned something essential: everything can be healed. As long as it’s not life or death, there’s always a way to rebuild — and even in matters of health, healing is possible as Louise Hay says in all her beautiful books.
I’ve become very passionate about the power of narrative — how the stories we tell ourselves shape our reality. Through psychology, neuroscience, and spiritual work, I’ve learned to rewrite those stories, to forgive, and to find compassion.
Forgiveness, for me, isn’t about the other person. It’s about freeing myself — about understanding that everyone is doing the best they can from their level of awareness or maybe not but that’s no need to take it personal. Healing is giving a voice to your pain, honoring it, and then letting it go. Because none of those wounds define who I am — they revealed who I could become.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that everything is connected — that every encounter, every coincidence, every person who crosses our path is part of a greater design guiding us toward our evolution. I can’t prove it with science, but I’ve felt it too many times to doubt it.
I believe that energy is real — that our thoughts, our emotions, and our intentions create invisible currents that shape our reality. When we align with love, creativity, and gratitude, life responds in extraordinary ways.
I also believe that art is one of the purest languages of the soul — that through music, film, or any form of creation, we can transmit something that words alone can’t reach.
And maybe that’s what faith really is — not in a religious sense, but in the sense of trusting that everything happening, even the painful parts, has meaning. That nothing is random. That we’re all part of something much bigger, even if we can’t see it yet.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived with purpose — that I turned every experience, even the painful ones, into art, meaning, and beauty.
That I was brave enough to reinvent myself again and again, to follow my intuition even when it didn’t make sense to anyone else. That I loved deeply, created fearlessly, and inspired others to believe in their own light.
But more than anything, I hope they say that I helped others expand — in ways they never imagined. That I uplifted women, mexicans, latin americans and anyone who resonated with my journey. That they saw their own pain in mine, and I saw mine in theirs — and that through that connection, we healed, grew, and dreamed together.
It would make me profoundly happy to know I was a small part of other people’s dreams coming true — that my work, my words, or my energy gave someone else the courage to believe in themselves.
Because if there’s one story I hope they tell, it’s that I lived fully, I loved fiercely, and I helped others remember that they were meant to shine too.
