John Chung of Yorba Linda on Life, Lessons & Legacy

John Chung shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

John, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
There’s a common mindset among many engaged couples that every wedding reception is basically the same. Having been to friends’ or family weddings, they often expect a fun but somewhat generic experience.

This is the biggest misunderstanding we work to overcome.

We are consistently humbled to receive emails after the wedding from the couples that their guests continue to express how uniquely enjoyable, personal, standout, and entertaining their evening felt.

That difference doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of years of systems and silent expertise. Our team invests immense detail behind the scenes to ensure seamless flow, and we have the experience to gracefully handle any unexpected curveballs. Ultimately, I believe it’s our obsessive attention to detail and the drive to make every single event ‘epic’ on its own terms that creates those unforgettable results and fuels the feedback we’re so blessed to receive.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are a team of professional MCs, DJs, and event coordinators dedicated to handling every detail—from audio-visual production to master timeline planning—ensuring your celebration is nothing short of epic.

While we are vendors working your event, our passion runs deeper. This feels less like a job and more like a calling. We genuinely love what we do, and we believe that passion is directly reflected in the exceptional feedback and compliments we receive.

The origin of JYB Entertainment is a testament to that passion. It began not as a business plan, but as a favor. A close friend needed an emcee for his wedding reception and immediately thought of mcJYB (John). Known as the perennial planner and life of the party, with a natural gift for energizing a crowd, John was the obvious choice. He gladly accepted, and though it was his first time, he captivated the entire room—the couple and their guests were thoroughly entertained all night.

From that single act of friendship came an unexpected request from another couple, who had been guests, insisted he host their wedding. John tried to explain it was just a one-time favor, but they were adamant. That insistence revealed a real need for his unique energy and skill.

Since that humble beginning, countless hours have been dedicated to brainstorming one-of-a-kind, individualized receptions. We’ve now orchestrated hundreds of weddings, creating memorable evenings for countless newlyweds.

We invite you to experience our approach firsthand. JYB Entertainment offers a complimentary consultation via video conference to discuss your vision and needs. This meeting is where we listen and collaborate, helping you plan the seamless, joyful day you’ve always dreamed of.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was witnessing an elderly couple holding hands while out for a walk. They moved slowly, in perfect sync, not saying a word but radiating a profound sense of peace and contentment. In that simple, everyday scene, I saw the purest form of happiness—not in grand gestures or fleeting excitement, but in the quiet certainty of a lifelong companion.

It crystallized what I truly wanted: to build that kind of enduring partnership, to have someone to walk with through all of life’s seasons. It also deepened my purpose in this work. Every wedding I help orchestrate isn’t just a party; it’s the hopeful beginning of that very journey. My job is to help build the foundation for a day that becomes a lifelong memory, the first step in a couple’s own story of growing old together, hand in hand.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“Trust your rhythm. It may feel like things are taking too long and the process is slow – whether it’s building your skills, your relationships, or your business. Do not worry as it doesn’t mean it’s falling behind. Find your unique beat. That sense of being the ‘planner’ and ‘crowd-pleaser’ isn’t just a personality trait; it’s the foundation of your future craft. The patience and care you put into every small moment will one day become the exact experience that hundreds of couples and families will trust you to create for the most important day of their lives. Don’t rush the playlist. Let it build.”

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest is: “The client wants the newest, loudest, and flashiest.” We often chase trends and gear, assuming that’s what creates a “wow” factor. But in reality, what couples and families truly want is authentic connection and confident flow. No one leaves a wedding raving about the wattage of the speakers; they leave remembering how they felt—the seamless transition into their first dance, the moment their entire family sang together, the MC who made everyone feel seen and included. The lie is that the tool creates the experience. The truth is that emotional intelligence and meticulous planning do.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
The saying is ‘do what you LOVE,’ and while everyone nods in agreement, not everyone gets the opportunity to truly live it. I feel profoundly blessed that I do.

For me, it comes down to a simple shift in perspective: I’m not working a party; I’m facilitating joy. When you see your role as curating happiness, the line between ‘work’ and ‘passion’ completely disappears. Every wedding is a new chapter in someone’s life story, and I have the honor of setting the emotional rhythm for that chapter.

So at every event, I’m not just a vendor behind a deck. I’m fully present—feeling the nerves during the vows, sharing the laughter during the toasts, and yes, feeding off the incredible energy of a packed dance floor. I’m invested. That connection is what transforms duty into delight. The ‘work’ is in the meticulous planning and precise execution behind the scenes, but the ‘love’ is in the shared human experience front and center.
