Jazmin De La Torre shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jazmin, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from myself. I’ve been navigating a big life change over the course of the past year and the journey has been hard but beautiful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As a fellow new business owner, I understand the journey to the top. I’m passionate about content creation and eager to boost your online presence. With expertise in marketing, video editing, and social media trends, I offer personalized service and dedicated focus. Together, we’ll craft content that connects with your audience.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, I was taught very early on the importance of hard work and sacrifice. My father was the sole provider of our family, and so he instilled having a strong work ethic in me very early on. These were valuable lessons that I carried with me when I began working at the age of 15.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being judged. I always had this mentality that you should care about what other people think of you. I used to operate my life in a way that held me to really unrealistic expectations and standards. When I stopped living for others and started living for myself, that’s when everything changed for me. I truly became happier as a person.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The importance of family. I mentioned earlier that I’m a daughter of immigrants and it’s something that I take so much pride in. My family is my reason for why I do what I do. They did everything in their power to protect me and mold me into the woman that I am today. Staying close to them whether that’s through daily phone calls and texts, weekly visits, and spending quality time is really important to me. Our time here is so limited and I value spending it with my loved ones.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
For many years I was dimming my creative light. I’ve always been someone who was involved in some kind of creative outlet like music, singing, art, or theater. When I became more active on social media and started sharing my creative passions, I used to really get in my head about the content that I was putting out. I always aim to come across authentically as myself. And I think over the course of the past year, I’ve continued to take a lot of risks that proved to be worth it in the end. Now I feel like I can creatively be exactly who I want to be without the fear and judgement of other’s opinions. Filling my creative cup has been an exciting journey.
