Inspiring Conversations with Ron Cohen of Pearl Remodeling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Cohen.

Hi Ron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Ron. Ever since I was young, I was drawn to understanding how things work and fixing them with my own hands. With a degree in mechanical engineering, reading complex blueprints and mapping out structural details always felt like second nature to me. From 2004-2010 I worked across several remodeling companies in Los Angeles and kept running into the same frustrating issues – subpar craftsmanship, missed deadlines, and poor customer service. I knew homeowners deserved far better and I wanted to do much better.
In 2010, I officially earned my contractor’s license and teamed up with my cousin and business partner, Jacob. Jacob brought over a decade of hands on industry experience and he was a master of project management especially when it came to tackling the most complex, high-stakes jobs. We shared a single vision: to build a company that would lead the Los Angeles remodeling industry by delivering unmatched quality and exceptional customer service.
Together, we turned that vision into Pearl Remodeling. Over the years, we built a dedicated team that operates like a family, earning us a loyal base of repeat clients.
When other contractors ask what our secret is or whether we pay for positive reviews, my answer is always the same: we never buy our reputation. We earn it on every job site by showing up, managing projects the right way, being transparent – especially when it hurts – and eventually delivering the work on schedule. That’s the only recipe we know

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not a smooth ride at all, we worked day and night in the first 8 years or so.
It started with training workers and subcontractors, I mean you’re only good as your workers. It took many years to teach them the standards we expect from them.
I remember training my main Subcontractor for almost 7 years, he did most of my work back then and together we handled maybe 10 ongoing jobs and at some point and we were working like an nice oiled machine, everybody were happy and mainly the customers, at some point the main guy had major family issues and he started dropping the ball until he went bankrupt leaving me with 6 unfinished projects. It wasn’t about those projects or the additional money I had to spend to complete them, it was about the years of training…..
Building the team of workers and subcontractor wasn’t the only thing, building the office team was also quite a struggle, employees don’t stay forever and every time someone wanted to quit or if we had to let go of someone, it was very hard to find someone to bring in, someone with the same positive energies that we have.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I Believe that we stand out the most by listening to our clients first and delivering the product they want and not what we want. I also think that transparency and integrity is something that people always say they have but when it comes to real life they fall short. We take responsibility.
We are experts in complete home renovations, Kitchen Remodeling, Home Additions and ADU’s. We are very communicative and provide our customers with tons of information even over the phone and without having any agreements or charges to the client.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I can only say that aside from our employees, we worked and still work with some of the best project managers in Los Angeles, Isaac, Ben, Avi, Gal, Rebecca and Alon are some of the best project managers I’ve known. And as I mentioned before, our subcontractor: The Plumbers, Electricians and the finishers are a big part of our success.
I would also state that our main Architect and Interior designers have been a huge help and pushed us to different levels.
Nice important fact: Our pride and joy is our office, Our office is a 2 story ADU we built from scratch (Images attached). It is litterally a home, and coming to the office everyday actually feels like home and brings a different meaning to working as a family
