Exploring Life & Business with Roy Heskel of Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roy Heskel.

Hi Roy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career in accounting, working in business tax and helping small business owners manage the numbers behind their companies. It was a solid career, but one day it hit me: this wasn’t the path I wanted to stay on.

On my way home from work, I called a good friend of mine who owned a successful tile and stone showroom. I told him I was thinking about leaving accounting and pitched him an idea.

The plan was simple: I’d open a small kiosk inside his showroom and sell his customers everything else they needed for their projects—the products he didn’t carry.

As it turns out, timing has a funny way of working.

That very same morning, his brother-in-law Ben, the owner of Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen, had called him with a completely different conversation. Ben was looking for help finding a business partner.

My friend immediately connected the dots.

He introduced us.

Ben and I met, hit it off, and in 2014, we became partners.

At the time, Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen had just two employees. We weren’t walking into a massive operation with unlimited resources. We were building something—and we had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted it to become.

Over the years, we transformed DELUXE from a small operation into a high-end kitchen and bath showroom specializing in decorative plumbing fixtures, serving homeowners, designers, builders, and industry professionals who care just as much about the details as we do.

Today, our team has grown to more than 25 employees, backed by over 50,000 square feet of warehouse space and inventory.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not—and honestly, that has been a big part of the fun.

When I joined Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen, I was coming from the accounting world and stepping into an industry that was completely new to me. Decorative plumbing is a surprisingly technical business, with an enormous amount of products, specifications, finishes, parts, and details to learn. Today, our website alone has **more than 4 million SKUs**, which gives you an idea of just how deep this industry goes.

There was a serious learning curve. I had to understand the products, the manufacturers, the technical side of plumbing, and how all the pieces of a kitchen or bathroom project come together. And just when you think you know a category, you realize there are another thousand things you haven’t learned yet.

At the same time, I was also learning what it really means to own and grow a business—hiring, managing people, building systems, purchasing, inventory, sales, marketing, operations, customer service, and everything else that comes with scaling a company.

That part has definitely been challenging, but it’s also what has made the journey so exciting. Every stage of growth has forced us to learn something new, solve a different problem, and become better operators.

It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t have wanted it to be. The challenges are a big part of what turned Deluxe into the company it is today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen?
**Deluxe Vanity & Kitchen** is a high-end kitchen and bath showroom specializing in boutique decorative plumbing fixtures and thoughtfully curated products for the home.

We work closely with **homeowners, interior designers, developers, and contractors** to bring projects to life—from a single bathroom to a complete luxury residence. Our team goes far beyond simply selling products. We dive deep into the technical details, understand how each fixture performs and works together, and guide our clients through the selection and design process to make sure every piece is both beautiful and right for the project.

What really sets Deluxe apart is what happens after the sale. We have a dedicated **in-house warranty department**, so if an issue ever comes up, our clients don’t have to chase down manufacturers or figure things out on their own. They call us, and our team takes care of the process and helps get the parts or products needed to resolve the issue.

We’re also known for our inventory. Many specialty and hard-to-find products in our industry can have extremely long lead times, so we’ve invested heavily in keeping a wide selection of desirable products readily available in our warehouse. That means our clients can often get unique, high-end fixtures without having to wait months for them to arrive.

At the heart of Deluxe is a simple philosophy: **great products, deep product knowledge, exceptional service, and an experience people remember.**

We’re not here just to help you buy a faucet, sink, tub, or fixture. We’re here to help you create a space you love—and make the entire process feel effortless.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the biggest shift over the next five to ten years will be the role **AI plays in the design and selection process**.

AI will make it easier for clients to visualize spaces, explore different styles, compare finishes, and narrow down product options before they ever make a final decision. It will also help designers and showrooms work more efficiently by making an industry with millions of products much easier to navigate.

At the same time, I think our industry is in a unique position because the physical showroom experience will remain extremely important. When you’re selecting high-end plumbing fixtures, you want to **see the finish in person, feel the quality, understand the scale, and see how it works with tile, stone, cabinetry, and the other elements in the room**. Those details are difficult to fully appreciate on a screen.

So I don’t see AI replacing the showroom experience. I see it making the experience better.

The future will probably be a combination of **technology and personal service**—using AI to make the design process faster and smarter, while still giving clients the hands-on experience, expert guidance, and human connection they want when creating their home.
