Eli Gabrieloff of Valley Glen on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eli Gabrieloff. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Eli, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Eli Gabrieloff, Luthier and guitar technician with over 20 years of experience building, designing, and repairing guitars. Based in Los Angeles, I specialize in bringing out the best in every instrument—whether it’s restoring a vintage classic, crafting a custom build, or fine-tuning a modern guitar for professional performance. My work spans electric, acoustic, and classical guitars, as well as other stringed instruments, and I am proud to serve musicians of all levels, from beginners to world-renowned artists. My goal is always the same: to create or repair instruments that inspire players and sound their absolute best.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds break when trust slips, when listening fades, or when pride takes the wheel. They’re restored the same way you fix a guitar—patience, a little tuning, and the guts to say, ‘I messed up.’ Add kindness and laughter, and the glue holds strong again.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course—more than once. But I’ve learned that ‘almost giving up’ is usually just the intermission before the good part of the story. Every time I thought I was at the end of my rope, I realized I wasn’t holding a rope at all—it was a guitar string, and I just needed to tune it tighter. Hahaha

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I see that a lot of smart people think the agenda should always be about siding with the weak against the strong. But I believe they’re aiming at the wrong target—it should be about siding with the moral against the immoral. Strength and weakness shift with time, but morality is the compass that actually keeps us on course.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
A loving dad to David.
