Da’Shon, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Getting up early and work out and get ready to get going to the studio to work on records about to be released.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the owner of New West Association a record company based out of California, I also so own a studio which i engineer in, i produce most of the music for the label’s artist, hip hop and R&B mostly, New West Association has become a place to create your dreams from music, videos, and podcasting in one place, been working with a producer from France name Mishka. Just released Can’t Trust These Streets, Kingz , Hard Times Pass and Get Rich and released a video to Get Rich. Working on many records with other artist to, New West Association is focused on branding there name this year coming.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Being shot at an early made me see the world threw another point of view, learn how it felt to not be able to walk for 2 years and what it takes to walk again, not to take my time for granted and we really only get one life. I think that’s when i started to get more serious with my craft as and artist, i learned how to use Pro Tool’s and the MPC 2000 and just got better as time went on, got my first studio in a building and never stop growing.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Learning and being patience with this industry and the time you have to put in to truly get what it take all around has had me in doubt about making it, as way’s in trouble and that brings set backs, i don’t know if i wanted to give up are didn’t think i could do what it takes because if you don’t know how to do it all you can be out lots of money.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My team would say my career is what matters to me most, this is all i do daily to perfect it. I’m cool on all the hanging out doing nothing all the, i treat this like a 9 to 5, don’t have anyone making me do it, i do it for my self.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
The streets i come from raised me different so i seem like i don’t know what I’m doing because of the way i look but in reality I’ve had a chance to work with Suge Knight and i picked up every thing i could from someone i knew had been where i was trying to go, I’ve lost many friends over this understanding but i would not be where i am today.
