Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruslana Rasnovska.
Hi Ruslana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Ruslana, and I’m originally from Ukraine.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to create beauty in this world. I truly believe that beauty has a special power — it can change the way we feel, give us confidence, and create moments we remember forever.
When I moved to the United States and started a new chapter of my life, I realized even more clearly that I wanted my work to be connected with women and with making them feel beautiful and happy.
That is why I especially love working with brides. A wedding day is filled with so much love, excitement, and emotion, and I feel incredibly lucky to be a small part of such an important moment in someone’s life. For me, makeup and hair are not simply services — they are about creating a feeling.
I love working with my hands because I believe there is an exchange of energy in what I do. My goal is for every woman who sits in my chair to leave not only looking beautiful, but feeling beautiful, confident, and genuinely happy.
This is what makes me love my work every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges for me was completely changing the direction of my career. In Ukraine, I owned a barbershop and worked primarily with men. After moving to the United States, I realized that I wanted to work with women. I felt a much stronger connection to this side of the beauty industry, but it also meant learning something completely new — understanding women, their expectations, what makes them feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful.
The biggest challenge, however, was immigration and the language barrier. In Ukraine, I understood the business market very well, but in the United States I had to learn everything again from the beginning — how the beauty industry works, how to find clients, what American clients expect, and most importantly, how to communicate with them.
I started learning English when I immigrated, and for almost a year I barely worked because I didn’t yet understand how to build communication and relationships with clients here. It took me more than a year to understand the market, improve my English, and learn how to build my business in a completely new country.
It was challenging, but it taught me that being talented at your craft is only one part of success. You also have to understand people, communicate with them, and make them feel heard and understood.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize primarily in bridal makeup and hairstyling because I believe a wedding day is one of the most meaningful and emotional days in a woman’s life. Being trusted to help a bride feel beautiful, confident, and completely herself on that day is something very special to me.
What sets me apart is my attention to every detail and my commitment to professionalism. For me, professionalism starts long before I touch a client’s face or hair — from the organization and cleanliness of my makeup kit to the way I dress, communicate, arrive, and create a comfortable atmosphere. I want every woman in my chair to feel that she is in good hands.
I genuinely love people, and I especially love working with women. I admire how different every woman is, and I never want to simply recreate the same look on everyone. I try to understand her personality, her features, her style, and how she wants to feel.
For me, beauty is not about changing a woman. It is about highlighting what is already beautiful about her. My greatest compliment is when a bride looks in the mirror and still sees herself — just more confident, radiant, and happy.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The first piece of advice I would give anyone is to find a profession that you truly love. I strongly believe that when you love what you do, you never really feel like you are simply “going to work.” Your profession becomes a part of your life, your creativity, and your passion.
When you are genuinely passionate about your work, people can feel it. Clients can always sense the difference between someone who is simply doing a job and someone who truly loves what they do.
In the beginning, following your passion may not always bring the biggest financial rewards, and building a career takes time. But I believe that if you continue learning, improving, and putting genuine energy into your work, eventually it will bring both professional growth and financial success.
People feel people. They feel your energy, your passion, and your attitude. So my biggest advice is to choose something you truly love, become great at it, and allow that passion to create the right connections and opportunities along the way.
