Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne Sheridan.
Hi Lynne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up on an Ojibwe reservation in Northern Wisconsin, child of divorce and youngest of seven kids in a combined family. I saw the challenges of divorce and also experienced a small taste of what it was to be a minority, although I am ‘white.’ When I was a little girl and living with my mom in a suburb of Chicago, I marched with her to end discrimination and was actually in her belly at Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech. All of that impacted me deeply.
I learned firsthand what kids go through in a divorce and the challenges of being in a ‘Brady Bunch’ family, and I wasn’t a ‘happy’ kid. I also got the privilege of dancing in pow wows, learning words of Ojibwe, that I wished i would have paid more attention to, and the reverence for all things being One.
When I was 28 years old I walked into a Transformational training, Lifespring, and felt like I was home. It gave me a framework for my life that had me let go of being a ‘victim’ of challenging things that had happened in my childhood. I stepped into power and authorshiip for my life, and realized that I was here to impact others and to awaken them to what is possible. I have been a Transformational Trainer for the past 35 years and have impacted about 110,000 lives around the world. I am also the author of The Birds and Bees of Joyful Monogamy, NINE SECRETS TO HOT PARTNERING, and have done Couples Retreats for close to two decades. I hold Transcendent Breathwork retreats and have a company, Awakened Soul Journeys, using extraordinary states of consciousness to continue to expand consciousness, experience Oneness and live from Love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I like to say that I was an aggressive learner during the first 20 years of my life. My dad and stepmom kidnapped my brother and sisters and I when I was eight-years-old, because my mom had been in and out of hospitals for physical and mental health issues. Sometimes we had care, sometimes we were alone. When a policeman got called one too many times with us afraid in a storm, he tracked down my dad. That began our combined family and five years in an out of courts. My dad eventually won, in part, because he had technically kidnapped us to another nation, with different laws and oversight.
I experienced sexual abuse for a period of time, had a stepmother who I had rejected, and, in turn, she really didn’t like me. She was hard on me, attributed negative traits to me, and when she wrote a book based on our family story, she wrote me out of the story. I felt that growing up and really didn’t feel seen, heard or valued at home. On the one hand we lived in a mansion on the reservation, would vacation in Keystone every winter skiing, grew up in paradise on a chain of lakes…and on the other hand, I felt completely without value.
I made lemonade no doubt. But I got into an unsustainable pattern: prove my worth, overachieve and accomplish to earn my worth. I’m clear that this is a familiar path for many of us, but exhausting. No amount of degrees, success, money or recognition will ever fill the empty hole. It’s an inside job. Once I began that work, I felt free and genuinely joyful for the first time in my life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have had the privilege of doing transformational work around the world, and I’ve learned that everyone has their own unique story AND the threads that weave of together are stronger than those that separate. Because I’ve worked in a wide variety of situations and environments, from famous tech. companies to small businesses, to general public, I appreciate meeting people where they are. I am known as the Radical Fairy Godmother of Transformation, because I love opening up possibility where it hasn’t existed. I love bridging differences in belief systems and having people get out of being right about they way they see things to see and hear another. I start with people who’ve never heard of transformation and finish with people seeing themselves, their world and perceived obstacles entirely differently. And that shows up in real results and changes to the bottom line – whether that is revenue or love.
At the same time, I love expanded states of consciousness and people having a direct experience of Oneness, their power and purpose on this planet and the power of Love. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist and have been trained in the use of psychedelics to heal. That combined with my reverence for indigenous ceremonies and wisdom has me in a unique position to be a bridge – not therapy, not ‘white shaman lady’, but clear in the sacred interplay.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I could probably write a book on mentorships because I’ve been so blessed with people who have recognized what I was here to bring. My best friend and business partner, Lisa Kalmin, woke me up to playing a much bigger game on this earth when she had the audacity to ask me to transform the planet with her. I said yes, and haven’t looked back. There is much work to do.
Jeff Cosby has been a longtime friend and mentor and is also a business partner who provides balance and has appreciated my joy, freedom and pull towards Spirit, and has also kept me grounded and present to the here and now. It’s been invaluable to have an older man be vulnerable and open about the world as it occurs for him and had me relate to the world differently.
Gabriel Nossovitch was my original mentor and his surgeon-like precision with language and working with people changed my listening forever. He continues to teach me not the easiest of lessons about humility and love.
Every transformational trainer that I’ve had the privilege of working with inspired me, challenged me and shaped me. I have gathered lessons and will continue to gather to serve whoever is in front of me.
